"BMW i has played a central role in the success story of the series since the beginning of Formula E"Says Jamie Reigle, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E."And not only as a founding partner but also as a manufacturer in sporting competition, who is currently leading the team ranking. I am very happy that we will continue to work with BMW i as an 'Official Vehicle Partner' in the long term and future-oriented. This proves how important BMW is about electric mobility.“In addition to the role as“ Official Vehicle Partner ”, BMW i also provides the vehicle fleet for the popular“ BMW i VIP Laps ”, ie taxi rides around the course during Formula E events all over the world. BMW i is also the "Official Partner" and "Founding Partner" of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

"As a pioneer in electromobility and a founding member of Formula E, we are proud to extend our longstanding cooperation and support the racing series beyond Season 6 as an 'Official Vehicle Partner' with our extensive support vehicle fleet“, Says Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer & Brand BMW. “A highlight is of course our BMW i8 Roadster Safety Car, which we presented in Mexico in a spectacular new design. It is the first and only roadster used as a safety car. BMW i has played an active role in shaping the rapid development of Formula E for automobile manufacturers, companies and fans all over the world from day one. We believed in the concept from the very beginning and used the inspiring environment to test our future-oriented BMW i technologies and innovations in the Tech Lab Formula E under competitive conditions and to present them to the public. The new design of the BMW i8 Safety Car, which BMW i makes available both as a coupé and as a roadster, is also forward-looking and innovative. Like the BMW iFE.20, the Safety Car was designed by Michael Scully, Global Automotive Director @Designworks. He and his team are responsible for the designs of BMW racing and safety vehicles. It continues some elements of the predecessor. These include the blue and white corners, which intersect based on the BMW logo. Furthermore, the view from above is emphasized, which plays a particularly important role in Formula E races given the mostly elevated seating position of the spectators. Added to this is the asymmetrical layout, which ensures maximum visibility at high speeds. As with the racing car, the striking changes include the non-reflective, matt black cockpit element, which has been extended to the driver's entire environment. It focuses even more on the driver and underlines its central importance. "In the Safety Car in particular, we have integrated the colors of the light bar into the design. This makes the vehicle's striking color scheme very authentic“Says Scully.

BMW i has been known as “Official Vehicle Partner“Closely linked to Formula E. Since season 5, BMW i Andretti Motorsport has also been competing on the track. After the two victories of Alexander Sims (GBR) and Maximilian Günther (GER), the team is currently leading the team classification in three races. In addition to its sporting success, the racing vehicle, the BMW iFE.20, primarily serves as a technology laboratory for the further development of drive concepts for BMW i series vehicles. The technology transfer between racing and series development has never been as intensive at BMW as it was with the Formula E project.
