The introduction of a new technology platform required innovative technical solutions for the transmission: it is the neuralgic point of the plug-in hybrid system. In order to achieve its own targets, Lamborghini chose a new, compact gearbox capable of meeting the needs of such a powerful electric drive unit. After the Revuelto, this transmission will also be used in the next generation of super sports cars from Sant'Agata Bolognese. The wet shifting double clutch represents the most efficient and powerful solution to tame 725 Newton meters of torque at 6750 rpm.

Lamborghini installed the new eight-speed gearbox transversely behind the longitudinal V12 engine. This creates space in the center tunnel for the lithium-ion battery that feeds the electric motors. An innovative solution for supercars that once again puts Lamborghini at the forefront - a testament to Lamborghini's creativity and inventiveness. Further advantages: This technical layout keeps the wheelbase within limits and optimizes the weight distribution - for excellent driving dynamics. In the 60-year history of Automobili Lamborghini, before the Revuelto, there were only two other V12 cars with a transverse transmission in the rear: the revolutionary 1966 Miura, which relied on a transverse mid-engine layout, and the Essenza SCV12, a transversal mid-engine layout Racetrack-oriented hyper sports car with longitudinal engine and load-bearing transverse transmission.

The gearbox has two instead of the usual three transmission shafts: one is used to engage the even gears, the other to engage the odd gears, both of which end in the same output shaft. This structure keeps the overall weight low and saves space at the same time. The development of the eight-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) stems from the desire to create a product that meets all the requirements for a sporty driving style with fast shift times. The new eighth gear also contributes to optimizing consumption and improving drivability at cruising speed.

A special feature is the continuous downshift. When braking, the transmission shifts down several gears by the driver pressing and holding the left shift paddle on the steering wheel. This gives the driver a feeling of complete control. Without the electrical components, the new DCT weighs less compared to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission of the Huracán model range and achieves faster shift times. The transverse position of the transmission also creates a more spacious, comfortable interior, as there is more space behind the driver and front passenger.

At 560 millimeters long, 750 millimeters wide and just 580 millimeters high, the dual-clutch transmission remains extremely compact. The total weight of just 193 kilograms already includes a new component that is fundamental to the car's hybrid architecture: the rear electric motor with a maximum output of 110 kW and 150 Newton meters of maximum torque.

This electric motor installed above the gearbox also functions as a starter and alternator. It also supplies the two front electric motors with energy via the battery in the transmission tunnel. In fully electric mode, it delivers power to the rear wheels. Together with the electric motors on the front wheels, it enables electric all-wheel drive. How the system works depends on the selected driving mode. A decoupling mechanism with a special synchronization device establishes the connection with the dual-clutch transmission. When it provides extra power to the V12 combustion engine, the electric motor is in position P3 and disconnects from the gearbox. Meanwhile, it switches to the P2 position to charge the battery at low speeds or when parking, while also acting as a starter.

In position P3, the Revuelto drives with electric all-wheel drive depending on the selected driving mode and thus continues the all-wheel drive tradition of Lamborghini without any pollutant emissions. In reverse gear, the two front electric motors are always active. When additional drive torque is required, the rear electric motor can step in and activate the rear axle and wheels. The Revuelto thus drives all four wheels electrically even in reverse gear when there is poor grip.
