Heritage Customs, a Dutch company, presents another conversion project based on the Land Rover Defender. This time the short wheelbase version gets the roof removed. And the project was already a long time ago, specifically in December 2021, announced. Almost half a year later there was a small update, since then only silence. But now the conversion is complete. The first Land Rover ever built was a convertible, and only since 1990 have successors carried the Defender name. Earlier models, like the military Land Rover Wolf, had a fabric top for convenience. And now Heritage Customs from the Netherlands presents a new convertible version of the Defender as "Land Rover Defender 90 Valiance Convertible".

Land Rover Defender 90 Valiance Convertible

Heritage Customs hails from the Netherlands and is run by co-owner Niels van Roij, a coachbuilder, who last worked under the label Niels van Roij Design with one based on a Ferrari 599 Daytona Shooting Brake tribute caused a stir. However, Heritage Customs is currently only concentrating on refining new Land Rover models, with the current convertible conversion being the most spectacular to date. The Defender Convertible is based on the Defender 90, the variant with two doors and a short wheelbase. And the Defender's outstanding off-road capabilities remain fully intact after the convertible conversion. Completed entirely by hand, the conversion includes the removal of the rear windows, the roof including the C-pillars and the rear window frame.

And before the conversion, the specialists also completely remove the Defender's paintwork in order to then repaint the off-road convertible. Red Kokkini Paralia, Côte d'Azur and Solihull Sand are the pre-configured colors to choose from. However, Heritage Customs leaves the customer free choice in this regard and also in the top and interior colors as well as the choice of materials. In addition, each Defender Valiance has a handcrafted bonnet with side design elements in checker plate look. Even the rims are a Heritage Customs creation and are reminiscent of the original Defender wheels. However, they are designed independently and bear the logo of the Dutch company. The same applies to the radiator grille and the side air outlets in the front fenders.

The top can be opened and closed semi-electrically

The fabric roof can be opened and closed semi-electrically, while the front occupants sit on new sports seats. Heritage Customs also equips the Valiance with a leather-covered roll bar, which is covered like the seats, dashboard, door panels and steering wheel. Many details in the interior are also refined with metal by the Dutch. And every Defender convertible also receives two Heritage Customs plaques. However, interested parties have to wait at least three months for their rare and highly individual Valiance Convertible, as Heritage Customs does not have any convertibles in stock, but only procures suitable basic vehicles once the customer's wishes and requirements have been discussed.

Incidentally, the prices for the conversion start at a staggering €82.500 net plus donor vehicle. So if you live in Germany and want to own a Land Rover Defender 90 Valiance Cabrio, you will pay almost €162.000 including VAT. The base vehicle is then only the Defender entry-level model.
