All gold that glitters - Manhart GR 550 based on Toyota Supra!

It was in the middle of 2019 when Toyota once again launched a car for the heart and returned to the sports car segment after years of abstinence. After years of relying more on eco-vehicles, which are powered by the almost legendary hybrid drive called Hybrid-Synergy-Drive, they listened to the many fans who mourned models like the Celica or the Supra and brought with the current generation the Supra again a veritable sports car on the market. Unfiltered, puristic and completely hybrid-free, the Supra A90, as it is called internally, immediately won everyone's hearts JDM fans in the storm. Of course, this is also noticeable in the tuning scene, and various tuning companies around the world have already refined the splendid Toyota and enhanced its performance.

This Supra is of course also grafted. Namely from the tuner Manhart Performance, which already presented a 500 PS version in February. But now we are going one step further. And so the current model crouches even lower above the asphalt, as it was lowered with the help of an H&R lowering kit. In addition, the in-house Manhart Concave-One rims with a satin black finish in 20-inch format were installed. The rims, which have a classic design with six double spokes, are 9 × 20 inches at the front and 10,5 × 20 inches at the rear, which completely fill the wheel arches. The matt gold foil, which is typical for Manhart, forms a strong contrast to the matt black rims. In addition, the film has decorative stripes in black and fine red accent lines. Furthermore, to improve the overtaking prestige, another AC Schnitzer front spoiler lip installed, which makes the Supra look even sportier and signals to everyone in front that they have to make room so that you can really have fun with the Supra. In our opinion, the Supra is an absolute eye-catcher at every car meeting, and certainly a crowd puller that is second to none. If at some point Corona allows tuning meetings to be held again.

Performance increase by up to 210 hp

The 3-liter in-line six-cylinder biturbo gasoline engine, which comes from BMW and is also used in various Bavarian models, has a standard output of 340 hp and 500 Newton meters of maximum torque. Manhart did not leave it at that, but turned the performance spiral. Traditionally, Supra models, and especially the predecessor called Mk. IV, are often performance-enhanced up to the limit, and four-digit horsepower numbers are not uncommon. It remains to be seen whether these areas can also be achieved with a BMW engine, but the Wuppertal tuner Manhart has already tickled 550 hp and 770 Newton meters of maximum torque from the unit with this model. Equipped in this way, the Manhart GR 550 should offer driving performance similar to a super sports car, which does not have to hide from any Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini. In addition, this Supra is certainly ideal for drag races over the quarter mile.

Once again the tuning company Manhart proves that they can not only refine BMW models and heave them into new spheres, but also have a knack for automobiles from other manufacturers. With the Manhart GR 550, the Wuppertalers achieved a great coup in terms of JDM tuning, although, if you look closely, you are dealing with a model that is powered by a BMW engine and generally has a lot of BMW technology. Nevertheless, the project was extremely successful and will surely find a lot of fans in the tuning scene.
