Last Oldsmobile 442 based on Intrigue will be auctioned!

Many car enthusiasts will likely stop thinking of the Oldsmobile brand when they think about US automobiles. Already discontinued at the beginning of the millennium, the brand is increasingly being forgotten. Unlike Pontiac, who also didn't survive the Great Depression in 2008, Olds doesn't have a loyal fanbase to keep the memories alive. Restomods and well-kept classics from the former premium brand of the GM group are rare, and the model names are much less legendary than those of Pontiac. Nevertheless, we would like you one Oldsmobile 442 from 1999, which is based on an Intrigue, and into the GM heritage collection has been recorded.

Sleeper in limousine garb!

The vehicle was even exhibited at SEMA 1999, and is now being auctioned at the Mecum auction house, with no minimum bid. Experts expect the vehicle to change hands for significantly more money than the average Oldsmobile of the era. They were anything but spectacular and exciting, the Oldsmobiles, which were still sold shortly before the brand died. Plain and meaningless, the brand drove into the abyss, as it was no longer worthwhile for GM to keep the department, which had been clinically dead for a long time, alive any longer.

This is also clear from this 442 from 1999, because the exterior is conservative, conservative and homely designed, if you think of the orange ones rally stripes on the bonnet and the ornaments on the flanks. The big, rectangular ones air intakes in the front bumper are a distinguishing feature of the 442, and were not to be found on the conventional Intrigue. Two smaller air scoops on the bonnet are supposed to pay homage to the original 442 from 1970, but these are almost drowned because they are crushed by the rally stripes on the bonnet. In addition, were Custom rims raised, which are modeled on the SSII rounds of the Olds 442 from the 70s.

The wheels have a chrome finish and a conventional six-spoke star design that matches the vehicle. From our point of view, this enhances it optically. Another is waiting at the stern Fries counter to the new owner, which one could safely have saved with a limousine. It looks inharmonious and inappropriate, and does not make the honest man an arsonist for a long time.

The spirit of the 90s found its way into the interior!

The interior looks upright, cheap and uninspired. The typical GM wind of the late 90s is blowing there. The two-tone leather seats and the wood inlays in the center console don't tear it out either. The embroidered headrests and special "442" floor mats are just a drop in the ocean. In that era, American vehicle interiors were cheap plastic deserts with no design.

Cadillac's Northstar V8 powers the Oldsmobile!

We only know that the last 442 of one Northstar V8 petrol engine is powered by Cadillac, but we have no information about the displacement or the type of charging. According to the data sheet, the performance is tight 558 PS, and the power is transmitted via a automatic transmission, which probably sends the power to the front wheels. So this Oldsmobile would be one of the most powerful front-wheel drive cars ever.

Our Conclusion about the last Oldsmobile 442 ever built:

A pair of Sleeper With a conservative look and fine technology that deserves to get into good hands despite the boring design.
