Since the introduction of its first all-electric sports car at the end of 75.000, Porsche has delivered more than 2019 Taycans worldwide. A comprehensive update is now pending: Regardless of vehicle age, engine and body, all model variants can be brought up to the status of the 2023 model year with a software update. The update is market-specific.

Depending on when their vehicle was delivered, customers will benefit, among other things, from an increase in drive efficiency as well as new functions and improvements in Porsche Communication Management (PCM), Porsche Connect and the assistance systems. The update also includes the option of having individual functions and equipment activated after purchase (function on demand, FoD). In addition, the ability for over-the-air updates (OTA) is increasing for all Taycans. The update is free for customers and is installed as part of a workshop visit.

“With this campaign, our customers benefit from the permanent further development of the Taycan. Since 2019 we have extensively optimized the model series in almost all areas. New functions have been added, others have been revised or are now even easier for customers to experience,” says Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan series. "Anyone who has driven a Taycan from the very beginning will be positively surprised after the update at what has happened on the vehicle side." Internally, Porsche speaks of "update" because the 2022 model year, which started in July 2023, bears the letter "P". The exact scope of the update and the duration of the workshop visit depend on the specific software status of the respective Taycan.

The older the vehicle is, the more improvements and innovations are installed. The 22 kW onboard charger can also be retrofitted recently¹. Customers can combine this upgrade with the workshop visit for the software update at their own expense. With a charging capacity of up to 22 kW, the more powerful version charges the battery much faster. In Europe and North America, retrofitting also includes activation of the Plug & Charge function. It enables convenient charging and payment without a card or app. As soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan communicates in encrypted form with the Plug & Charge-enabled charging station. The loading and payment process then start automatically.

The most important updates at a glance:

  • Drive: In the "Normal" and "Range" driving modes, the front electric motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energized on the all-wheel drive models in the partial load range. When coasting and when stationary, both axes are free of drive torques. The electric freewheel reduces drag losses and increases the range. The all-wheel drive display is now shown as an energy flow display in the central display. This makes it easier to see the current operating status of the drives. The recuperation strategy has also been optimized. For example, the Auto-Reku setting is retained even if the driver changes the driving program. A gain in convenience for the customer. These improvements affect Taycan model years 2020 and 2021.
  • Thermal management: Better conditioning of the battery, especially when outside temperatures are low, means that the Taycan can be quickly charged more frequently overall and over a wider range of battery charge levels (SoC). For this purpose, for example, the waste heat from the electronic components is used even more than before to regulate the temperature of the battery. For the Taycan of model years 2020 and 2021², this allows for a longer range and shorter charging times.
  • Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Porsche Connect: New functions, a colorful tile design on the start screen and even more ease of use characterize the model maintenance measures in this area. After the update, voice control and the Spotify®- App integrated. Android Auto® is available wirelessly. Charging stations can be filtered and selected in the navigation according to charging capacity. Anyone driving a 2021 model year Taycan with a head-up display can look forward to the optimized display of the navigation map, for example. The display content has been expanded. In all Taycans before model year 2023, the on-board operating instructions can now also be used via voice control.
  • Assistance systems: Some systems can now support the driver in even more situations. The sensors of the parking assistant work with a greater range. The search for free parking spaces has also been improved so that smaller gaps are now also offered. Taycan model years 2020, 2021 and 2022 will benefit from these improvements.
  • Activation of functions after vehicle purchase (FoD): The keyless opening function (comfort access) for doors and tailgate can now also be activated on request for all Taycans from model years 2020, 2021 and 2022. In addition, the possibility of software updates over-the-air (OTA) has been further expanded for the new model year.
