Unique piece - Project Monaro as a highlight to be held!

Over and over! General Motors kills subsidiary Holden. After trying for a long time, the suffering of the Australian GM subsidiary will come to an end in 2021. Then it's over as General Motors officially announced the days. The subsidiary brand Holden will withdraw in Australia and New Zealand from 2021 and end all sales, design and development activities after 160 years. Holden had already discontinued its own vehicle production in 2017 and only sold Opel models under the Holden label. In addition, there were a few GM vehicles with the Holden badge but nothing of their own. But it wasn't worth it either. But Holden has a very special Restomod one-off piece at the start as a “conclusion”. A 2004 Monaro, also known as the Vauxhall Monaro in Great Britain. But that's not all. In the Middle East it rolled off the assembly line as the Chevrolet Lumina Coupé and the Americans know it as the Pontiac GTO.

It is based on a Holden CV8 Monaro

The basis for the conversion was a CV8 Monaro with a mileage of 214.000 kilometers, which was set up under the project name "Project Monaro" in 2019 and unveiled in Port Melbourne. And everything that makes a car sportier has been improved. That applies to the "acceleration", that applies to the "brakes" and also to the "chassis". Under the hood is a newly built 5,7-liter LS1-V8 from FluidDrive, which has received, for example, a Chevrolet performance crankshaft, improved cylinder heads or a sports exhaust system in US specifications from the GTO. The automatic transmission is of course also adapted to the additional power and a sport brake system from AP Racing ensures a decent deceleration. For the chassis, one relies on one from Sachs Performance that has been specially adapted to the Monaro by Triple Eight Race Engineering. And a lot has also changed visually.

The coupe, for example, is on chic motorsport forged wheels in matt gray with a red PinStripe and there were S007A Bridgestone high-performance tires for contact with the road. The body received a sporty bonnet with two air intakes and the front splitter attachment for the apron is new. Small details such as the redesigned fuel filler cap or the filigree 3D-printed spoiler lip on the tailgate from HP are only recognized immediately by professionals. The visual highlight, however, is definitely the completely new paint job specially mixed for this vehicle in the PPG color "Panorama Blue Suede". It harmonizes perfectly with the black accents in the hood, on the mirror caps or the front apron and was applied by Holden partner B&A in Melbourne. And the cabin was also designed with the help of the Auto Image Interiors team.

blue accents also in the cabin

Based on the paint finish, there were lots of blue accents (Frame from the instrument cluster, center console, door inlays, stripes in the seat, 12 o'clock marking on the steering wheel) and also black leather in combination with a lot of beige. The Project Monaro was recently presented with the help of Australian racing driver Craig Lowndes, who was largely responsible for the coordination of the one-off. And finally ... A great vehicle that does not necessarily make it easier to say goodbye to the traditional brand. The Monaro pays homage to the commitment and skills of Holden and the companies involved and will soon be raffled off to a lucky winner.
