Ugly Renault cars? You've exaggerated here!

One thing in advance, a vehicle as “hässlicher“To call it or not, of course, always depends personal taste away. The following article does not represent everyone's opinion, but only that of the author of this article and two freelance editors from tuningblog. Renault's daring design experiments: misunderstood by visionary! When it comes to unique and polarizing car designs, Renault has it all with models like the Vel Satis, them Megane II and the wind produced some “unfortunate” examples. The models, which are referred to by many as “ugly or unattractiveHowever, they provide more than just their external appearance.

Ugly Renault cars?

  • Renault Vel Satis: A vehicle that initially aroused great hopes later disappointed with its unconventional appearance. Designed by Patrick Le Quément, the Vel Satis was intended to be an avant-garde flagship that would stand out from the competition. Instead, the design, initially considered visionary, was later considered unattractive felt. The Vel Satis also suffered from various technical problems, including weaknesses in the chassis and electrical systems. Particularly noticeable were problems with the chassis, such as front suspension noises and rear shock absorber failures. The reliability of the engine and the quality of the injectors were also weak points, especially in the second generation models from 2006 to 2009.

There are other models!

In addition to the already mentioned models Vel Satis, Mégane II and Wind, Renault has with the Twizy, the first Twingo, the Scenic II and the Koleos In our opinion, further “unsightly” design experiments were undertaken.

  • Renault Twizy: The Twizy, a compact electric quadricycle, is known for its unconventional design and urban focus. With an output of 17 horsepower, a modest 6,1 kWh battery and a range of about 45 miles, the Twizy positions itself as a practical city vehicle. However, it doesn't offer much comfort; The interior is minimalist and the driving experience can be described as unsettled, especially due to the firm suspension and the lack of windows on some models.

  • Renault Twingo (1st generation): The first Twingo, introduced in the 90s, was characterized by its cheerful, almost playful design. Visually, however, this is controversial, especially among men, and is often considered “ugly”. With its characteristic front and playful exterior, the Twingo was a symbol of youthful freedom and easy, carefree driving, especially for women.

  • Renault Scénic II: The Scénic II, a compact MPV, brought a touch of modernity and practicality to the Renault fleet. With the flexible interior concept and the higher seating position, it offered a good mix of comfort and functionality, making it a popular family vehicle. In our eyes, however, it looks rather unattractive.

  • Renault Koleos: The Koleos, an SUV from Renault, tried to compete in a competitive segment. Its design was perhaps less polarizing than that of other Renault models, but it represented Renault's desire to establish itself in different vehicle categories. The Koleos offered a mix of comfort, space and functionality, although the design was rather conservative and aimed at mainstream acceptance. We simply like it not.

Courage to take the gap, but without great success!

In our opinion, Renault's approach to breaking with traditional design is reflected in the models. While they had their advantages from a technical point of view, such as a high level of comfort in the Vel Satis, they were often criticized for their unusual appearance. The vehicles show how difficult it can be to reconcile innovative design concepts with market expectations. They remain an example of how car design can push the boundaries of the ordinary and stimulate discussion.
