The Volkswagen e-Golf received more battery capacity in 2016. The model update from the fall received a lithium-ion battery with 35,8 kWh, which was able to record an increase of at least 24,2 kilowatt hours compared to the current battery capacity of 11,6 kWh. Compared to the BMW i3 with 33,2 kWh and the Nissan Leaf with 30 kWh, that was a small premium. According to the NEDC, the new battery enabled a range of approx. 300 kilometers, which, however, corresponded to only approx. 200 kilometers in real driving. When the traffic light starts, the 120 kW electric motor needs its juice. Why Volkswagen couldn't bring himself to install an 11 kW onboard charger for three-phase charging like BMW is beyond us. But at least the 7,2 kW charger that was introduced later was somewhat faster. Volkswagen hadn't really made any visual changes.

The e-Golf was just a typical Golf and could not be distinguished from the normal combustion engine for the layperson. Here we would have wished for a little more courage like BMW did with the i3 mentioned. In any case, it stands out from the crowd and was somehow fresher styled in the cabin. This copy of Adrian Bomba, the owner of the company xXx Performance based in Herten, shows us how it could have been done. In cooperation with his other company Seventy6cars.com, he has greatly modified an e-Golf. The vehicle is one from 2016, which received a dynamic and particularly extrovert appearance with an extensive full design wrapping. It shows the logos and lettering of the companies involved and some cleverly placed references to the electric drive. There were also full-LED headlights for the front and dark taillights with dynamic indicators are now installed in the rear. And Bomba has also declared war on the boring cabin mentioned.

discreet but still striking

Instead of the factory-made gray Stino equipment, the xXx Performance e-Golf has installed the interior of the Golf GTE with a check pattern. And to the seats came the gear lever and the multifunction steering wheel from the GTE into the e-Golf cockpit. Add to that the Volkswagen Discovery Pro entertainment system with the large 9,2-inch touchscreen and a fully digital, configurable multifunction cockpit. The visual highlight is clearly in the wheel arches. Because here the Tomason TN 25 Super Light rims in the format 8,5 × 19 inches that fit the vehicle wrapping all around with tires in the format 225 / 35R19. So that the wheelset fits perfectly in the wheel arch, there was an ST X coilover kit, and the significantly more dynamic appearance was ready. The changes are visually rounded off with tinted windows at the rear and black VW emblems. So we like the Stromer much better.
