Porsche has been causing speculation about a small mid-engine sports car for years. A boxster with a mid-engine? That's it! And the Porsche Vision Spyder (2019) could have been just that. But he wasn't allowed to! The vehicle was only created as a hard model on a scale of 1: 1. It reminds of James Dean and his affectionate nickname "Little bastard“Baptized 550 Spyder. In 1955 he died in it. Deans 550 had the starting number 130 and the study had the numbers 551/131. But the Porsche Vision Spyder should not only pay homage to James Dean and his sports car, the 550-1500 RS Spyder racing car can also be recognized. Hans Herrmann had beaten him more than 1954 kilometers through Mexico at the Panamericana in 3.000 and in the end achieved a class win for Porsche and third place in the overall standings. The Vision Spyder (2019) has a spartan cockpit, flat radiator grille over the engine in the middle, red racing stripes and indicated rear fins.
Porsche Vision Spyder (2019)
It was obviously intended to be reminiscent of the Carrera Panamericana racing car. The angular front section, however, shows certain parallels to the VW Porsche 914. It appeared as a mid-engine Targa in 1969. That was exactly 50 years before the Vision Spyder. The study also serves to further develop the design identity for Porsche sports cars with combustion engines. With regard to the vertical arrangement of the headlights at the front and the aerodynamically functional elements such as the roll bar, there is a chance of being incorporated into Porsche's design language. It is one of a total of 15 spectacular individual pieces from the presented book "Porsche Unseen". And from next year the scale models and prototypes can also be seen in the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
