Marketing in the automotive industry

The car is sacred to Germans. Even if a new, young and well-educated generation is growing up in the big metropolises, which thinks more pragmatically and calculates the advantages of not having one's own vehicle, the automobile still has a high priority in the German population. On Saturday, between breakfast and the Bundesliga, there are only two things for many men - mowing the lawn and washing the car. Many a person does not treat his own wife as lovingly as “man” cherishes and cares for his vehicle. Every small scratch in the paint is like a stab in the heart. And so, with enthusiasm and a toothbrush, you ruthlessly tackle any contamination so that the vehicle flashes and flashes again.

Customer loyalty through small giveaways

Accordingly, workshops, Car washes, paint shops and car accessories dealers don't complain about a lack of orders. Of course, in many cases it is important to assert oneself against numerous competitors. Small giveaways strengthen customer loyalty. In addition, every driver is happy to have useful little helpers such as ice scrapers, parking discs or life jackets. The provider Maxilia has a wide range of these products, which, when personalized, are always a good advertising medium for your own company. Of course, it is important that these products are of good quality, because an ice scraper that breaks on the second use certainly does not have the best advertising effect for a reputable car repair shop.

Car advertising is emotion

The car market itself is also highly competitive. In 2019, automobile manufacturers invested more than 2,2 billion euros in advertising in Germany. For many, a car still means emotion. Because a car cannot be sold only with facts or reasonable arguments. Of course, factors such as fuel consumption, the size of the trunk or the amount of vehicle tax are included in the purchase decision, but they are not the decisive factor. Anyone who breathes in the smell of the new leather on the first test drive, hears the roar of the engine when starting and is pressed into the seat when accelerating on the motorway, is more likely to behave unreasonably and follow logical arguments less than their good feeling. This is probably also a reason why there are electric cars in this country have so hard. You're just not sexy enough. For the very important target group of well-paid men over 40, an electric car is about as attractive as a fried herring is for a four-year-old.

Target group children

And yet the big automobile companies have also discovered children as a target group. Because they know exactly how important it is when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. Of course, children are not directly considered as buyers of a car, but they can be an influencing factor on the parents' purchase decision. Studies have found that a significant number of children may well have developed preferences for certain makes of cars. Of course, other factors play a role for children than for parents, but it should not be underestimated how great the influence of children is in today's society. While a child's opinion was hardly worth anything 50 or 60 years ago, today it is taken for granted in a kind of democratic decision-making process. Marketing experts have long recognized this development and have geared their strategies accordingly to this new target group.
