Aerodynamic design for more range
During the development of the rear box portfolio, extensive testing conducted by Thule showed that a rear-mounted box has a much smaller impact on fuel or battery consumption, and in some cases even reduces it. The optimized aerodynamics make it possible to improve the range. This is also confirmed by an external test series by Sweden's largest car magazine "Vi Bilägare", which was carried out with both petrol and electric vehicles.
Tested with a hitch mounted rear box (in this case the model Thule Onto) the trips showed that consumption was lower than when driving without a rear box. With a distance of 5400 kilometers driven in different weather conditions, the average consumption (kWh/100 km) was 4% lower than when driving without a luggage box. Tested with a fleet of Volkswagen ID4 vehicles.
"If you want to allow more payload, but achieve less energy consumption, mounting a rear box on the trailer hitch is the latest trend. On the test track, we found that both petrol and electric vehicles actually consume a little less than if they were driven without a box at all.“explains Björn Strid, Director Product Management at Thule. He further explains: "At Thule we are currently expanding our range with rear solutions for transport boxes. A premium product with aerodynamics like the Thule Arcox Box has is a real game changer. You can mount a large luggage box behind your car and end up using the same or even less energy or gas than driving without it. "

Thule Arcos will be available in two sizes: Thule Arcos M has a volume of 300 l and Thule Arcos L almost 400 l. In practice, this means that even in size M, e.g. B. can easily accommodate a stroller, some bags and 2 golf sets. For a trip where more needs to be transported, Thule offers a wide range of transport boxes with capacities from 300 to 610 liters.
