Car hatred: night driving ban on Lake Wörthersee!

This message should not please every Wörthersee visitor! According to the medium 5min.at should be in May at the Wörthersee night driving ban are valid. With this, the community wants to oppose "the noise and the excess' Fight back from some troublemakers. The GTI meeting at Wörthersee is on already canceled for 2022. Already in November 2021 it was announced that the municipality no alternative for an official meeting at the Wörthersee. In addition to the rejection by the municipality, there were a number of other hurdles, such as planning that was too uncertain due to Corona and a cancellation by Volkswagen. The main reason for the cancellation was expressed by the organizer in an open letter in November last year: "It seems necessary to get to the heart of a really sensitive topic: the behavior of disrespectful and unteachable tuning fans. These "wrong" fans, most of whom are from "foreign car brands", could ensure that the authorities would no longer grant permission for the official GTI meeting."

Although there is no official meeting this year, there is a high probability that many fans will still be drawn to the lake.

Even without an official meeting, it can be assumed that many fans will still go to the lake. After all, in recent years there have been more GTI enthusiasts with even fancier cars at the pre-meetings and post-meetings than at the official event. But you want to stop that. The night driving ban applies from May 13th to 29th. Due to the threat of noise pollution, there are no car journeys from midnight to 0 a.m prohibited. However, this rule only applies to visitors to the GTI meeting, not to professionals who are on their way to work. 5min.at quotes the Mayor of Villach Günther Albel in an article with the following "proud" statement: "For the first time this year, the city of Villach is preparing a night driving ban on certain streets between May 13th and 29th. At the same time, we block the Villach Alpine Road at certain times to protect the Dobratsch Nature Park from the excesses of the tuning meetings". Our conclusion: What was good enough as a source of income for years is now being resolutely fought! This is more or less reminiscent of the Ballermann.

The following roads are affected by the nightly closure:

  • B 83 Faaker See Straße (Seeblickstraße, Egger Seeuferstraße) between Drobollach and Egg (along the city limits)
  • L 53 Kohlstattstrasse from Drobollach to the city limits
  • L 52 Rosegger Straße (Ribnigstraße) on Ribnig Hügel (roundabout St. Niklas to the junction with Faaker See Straße)
