Preview of the 1 Formula 2023 season

The 1 Formula 2022 season is over. Max Verstappen has clinched his second world title in a row, Charles Leclerc secured second place in the drivers' championship in a spectacular season finale in Abu Dhabi and Sebastian Vettel drove his last race behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. But although there are still four months to go before next season kicks off in March, fans are already turning their eyes to 2023. Who are the favorites for the new season? What new faces will be seen on the race track? And what technical innovations will there be?

Bookmaker predictions

Preview of the 1 Formula 2023 season

This is currently known: Many fans will want to use a sports betting bonus to place a bet on the coming season. Some bookmakers are already offering interesting odds on the winner of the next World Cup. After Max Verstappen dominated the 2022 season, he is naturally the favorite for 2023 too. However, with odds well below 2, there are no big profits to be made here. The resurgence of Mercedes in the last races of the season could also tempt many to place an outsider tip on George Russell. With odds of currently 8:1, this is definitely much more lucrative. By the way, the bookmakers have not yet completely written off Lewis Hamilton. Despite a disappointing season without a single win, he is still considered one of the favorites at 2-1.

A deja vu season?

Preview of the 1 Formula 2023 season

In general, a lot of things will stay the same in the coming season. Because there are no personnel changes in the three leading teams. Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez will again be drivers at Red Bull, while Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be driving again for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are in the race for Mercedes. These are the drivers who have already fought out the 2022 season - they took places one to six in the drivers' standings. But that doesn't mean you'll automatically get bored. Because both Mercedes drivers and Charles Leclerc are aiming to dethrone Max Verstappen. He owed his spectacular lead of 164 points over the second-placed team not least to the technical problems of the competition. If Ferrari and Mercedes make up ground, everything is open again.

new faces

In the coming season, two young drivers will also compete as regular drivers for the first time. Oscar Piastri was backup driver for the team in 2022 of the sports car manufacturer Alpine, but ended the season without a race track appearance. His future has recently caused a stir. In August, Alpine announced that Piastri would succeed Fernando Alonso in the team in 2023. Piastri denied this report, it turned out that he had already signed a contract with McLaren Racing. The matter ended before an arbitration board and Piastri was eventually awarded the right to race for McLaren the following year. Nyck de Vries made his Formula 1 racing debut at the Italian Grand Prix in September as a stand-in driver for the ailing Alexander Albon. He will be a regular driver for the Alpha Tauri team in the 2023 season.

Innovations in the routes

There will also be changes to the routes again in 2023. A total of 24 races are to be held, two more last year. The return of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, last held in 1982, is eagerly awaited. A temporary street circuit was specially designed for this purpose, which will also include the famous Las Vegas Strip. The Qatar Grand Prix is back after a one-year hiatus. The Chinese Grand Prix, on the other hand, will also be canceled this year due to Covid 19 restrictions. The French Grand Prix, which was only added to the racing calendar in 2018, will be canceled again from 2023. Another innovation is that the number of sprint races will be doubled from three to six. Apparently, the FIA is satisfied with this format, which was introduced in 2021.

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
