Testing the SolarSaga 80W and the Jackery 1000 Pro solar generator!

In today's test, we will be dedicating ourselves to two new solar products from Jackery. The first is the solar generator Jackety 1000 Pro and further around the double-sided solar module Solar Saga 80W. As part of our test, we particularly want to answer the question of whether bifacial cells pay off in practice. Both devices are new products fromJackery and if you take a look at the design of the solar generator 1000 Pro, you can hardly miss its similarities to the previous model. The weight of the solar generator is almost 11 kg. This means that the generator is definitely one of the lighter models and thanks to an attached carrying handle, it can also be easily transported from place to place. Incidentally, they were installed Lithium-ion cells!

Compared to new power banks, lithium-ion batteries also have certain disadvantages that primarily affect charging times and service life. The manufacturer promises that the solar generator can be fully charged within 1,8 hours. Charging takes place in the normal way via a 220-volt socket. Of course we also tried this out in our test and in fact the solar generator was fully charged in just under 1.8 hours. Incidentally, according to the manufacturer, the lithium-ion batteries can be charged up to 1000 times before a capacity reduction of around 80% can be expected. Since our product test only lasted about a week, we were of course unable to check the manufacturer's information.

The packaging of the solar generator is, as usual with Jackery, very neat and the workmanship itself is extremely solid and of high quality. In our opinion, however, a very big disadvantage is the fact that the solar generator not controlled via smartphone app. Most modern solar generators now offer such a feature at no extra charge. Jackery should (and will) have to make improvements here.

Unfortunately not app-enabled!

The fact that the Jackery solar generator 1000 Pro is not app-enabled is noticeable when positioning the device at the latest. Because if you want to position the solar generator a little further away, for example, you can no longer read the values because you always have to press a button on the device. In terms of water resistance, the Jackery 1000 Pro will survive a few drops, but the device is suitable not for placement in continuous rain. An IP certification is also not available!

Jackery solar module "SolarSaga 80 Watt"!

The second piece of equipment that we examined as part of our test is the Jackery solar panel Solar Saga 80 watts. The costs total €249 per module, which we find quite cheap. And the bifacial solar cells also work with other Jackery Powerstations and not only with the Jackery 1000 Pro. However, it will be cheaper if you opt for a bundle. Compared to the older models, the modules are now equipped with solar cells on both sides.

Unlike before, you can now also find solar cells on the back, which have been integrated into 92% translucent glass. What you may be asking yourself, we also asked first: What are the solar cells supposed to do on both the front and the back? Compared to the previous models, the effectiveness is increased by the bifacial cells installed here. Jackery promises its customers a plus of up to 25%.

Among other things, such double-sided solar modules are also used in solar parks so that even more sunlight can be captured. A protective bag with a reflective coating is also included. Thanks to the bifacial cells, you have the advantage that you can use the modules not constantly realigning as more light is captured overall.

However, due to the weather, we were not able to fully test this feature in our test, but the double-sided cell attachment made itself felt even in our bad weather. Unfortunately, we were not able to reach the total capacity of 160 watts in our test because the weather simply did not cooperate. The solar cells also have dust and water protection because they have an IP68 certification. The modules installed in a steel frame also make an extremely robust impression, weigh a total of 5 kg and are 9,16 × 5,28 × 0,27 cm in size.

for the vehicle and camping area

The Power Station we see, among other things, in the camping scene as an optimal supplement to the existing power connection and of course also in the area around the topic of cars and motorcycles. For us as a car magazine, however, it is clear that we want to expand the area of application as much as possible in the field of vehicles Looking for. And there it works Solar Generator 1000 Pro extremely good! Because the area of application is particularly due to the 220 volt connections extremely extensive.

For the job? The power station is also perfect for craftsmen who are on the move. So there is no more annoying searching for a socket or pulling cables. Just take it with you and there is electricity everywhere for everyday work.

We tried out the Explorer 1000 Pro solar generator, for example, with a high-pressure cleaner for washing the car. A connected impact wrench for changing a wheel was also powerful enough, and even a vacuum cleaner could be used to clean the interior. The devices were connected one after the other and there was still enough residual capacity afterwards. There was even enough battery charge left that we could charge two small e-vehicles (an e-scooter & a drift car). Cool thing…

final

  • The Explorer 1000 Pro solar generator we tested from Jackery actually (almost) completely convinced us. Both at home and when camping, the solar generator can be a great support for everyday life. The bifacial solar cells of the SolarSaga 80 watt solar module guarantee sufficient power generation even in poor light conditions.

The manufacturer prices for the Jackery products amount to:

  • €1.699 for the solar generator 1000 Pro incl. 2 x SolarSaga 80 watts
  • €1.299 for the Explorer 1000 Pro solar generator
  • €3.899 for the solar generator 1000 Pro incl. 4 x SolarSaga 200
