Change / exchange BMW emblem on bonnet & tailgate!

Last year, BMW proudly announced that for the anniversary - 50 years "M" - that Motorsport emblem returns. And not only on complete vehicles like the M3 & M4, but also as an accessory from the M Performance Parts catalogue. In other words, if you dare, you can use your BMW with it M Motorsport emblem equip. But so that the change is possible at all, the old emblems on the hood and the tailgate must down. And even if the existing emblems are simply to be exchanged for new ones, for example due to weathering, defects, etc., then these instructions can be useful. In this article, we would like to briefly explain how the change works.

Has the emblem become rotten, peeled off or even partially fallen off? Then here we have the perfect guide on how to do it easily can renew itself. And our instructions can in principle be applied to all BMW models and generally to all car brands. Because the fastening method is almost always the same. The instructions are intended specifically for the BMW 5 Series of the G30 model generation (also F90 M5). By the way, removing the emblems from the inside is possible in this case CAN'T possible. Utensils needed are: Flathead screwdriver with a tip that is as flat as possible (a flat plastic wedge is better), adhesive tape / masking tape, a cloth, new emblems, the OEM plastic sleeves if necessary.   • Instructions for changing the BMW emblem in front
  • at best, mask off the paint around the emblem
  • carefully slide under it with a plastic wedge or similar and pry it out (start at the 6 o'clock position - directly from the front)
    – with a screwdriver there is a high risk of damaging the paintwork (alternatively, wrap it with a cloth to create a “cushion”)
    - ideally on the right and left (in the middle) of the emblem (there are the locks)
    – keep / avoid the leverage in the direction of the hood as low as possible
  • Clean the paint under the emblem (if necessary, touch up the paint with a touch-up pen if there are scratches)
  • Replace rubber grommet(s)/sleeve(s) under emblem if defective
  • press new emblem into the detents
    - M Motorsport emblem stick on, since there are no longer any locks at the front
    - When installing the M Motorsport emblem, if necessary remove the rubber grommets beforehand and close the holes (with body glue)
  • If necessary, heat the emblem slightly with a hair dryer and press it down again (this way the adhesive tape will stick better)

  • proceed as for the emblem in front
  • Press the emblem into place
  • If necessary, heat the emblem slightly with a hair dryer and press it on (this way the adhesive tape will stick better)
