1950s Mercury as a prime example of clean custom cars!

You will certainly wonder what make this extraordinary custom car is, but that much can be revealed, it is a Mercury. Equipped without a model name, but with a body that is so clean and unfussy that even water would probably roll off completely, the Mercury, which probably dates from 1950, immediately knows how to inspire. You'd like to touch it and stroke it so that you can check with your hands whether the body is really as smooth as it looks. This is probably the only way to find out whether you can get a car body so clean that it looks as if it is slippery and without annoying gaps. This vehicle is in the auction house mecum auctioned in Las Vegas, but we do not know what minimum bid is necessary to participate in the auction.

cleaner Restomod is a feast for the eyes

In the 1950s, the design of some automobiles was heavily based on jet jets. So also that of the Mercury brand, which at the time was the so-called Jet Age Cars put on the market. It is precisely these airplane-like lines that made Mercury so popular in the 1950s that we see in this one in an even more pronounced form Restomod.

The Front was only slightly changed, so that the typical Mercury face of the era was retained, but the roof was massive choppedwhich creates an extremely high window line that makes the car appear extremely powerful and stable. Especially that Rear The car has been significantly changed, and the round and long trunk lid shows certain parallels to superyachts and of course the "Boat Tail" from Rolls-Royce on. Even the enormously small one Rear windowThe shape of which is somewhat reminiscent of a Beetle underlines the round character of the car. the Profile foldthat stretches across the entire flank gives the impression of wanting to divide the Mercury into three parts, namely the chopped roof, flank and fender area.

The rear ones are also an absolute highlight wheel coverswhich release almost nothing from the rear tires, as they reach close to the ground for aerodynamic reasons. Last but not least, the small rear lights of the Mercury still look as if they were modeled on a jet jet, which makes them a perfect match for the aircraft-like design of the car.

Interior: original but extensively restored

The interior is made of the original materials such as chrome, leather and plastic, and was perfect restauriertin order to be in no way inferior to the exterior. You won't find any modern gimmicks here, which means that a classic flair has been retained.

GM-V8 with 5,7 liters displacement under the hood.

It may sound like sacrilege, but under the hood of this Mercury beats a heart of arch-rival GM, the 5,7 liter displacement and is not forced ventilation. This engine is coupled to a TH-350 gearbox, and there will only be those Rear wheels driven. Unfortunately, we have no information on the exact performance data of the car, but we are sure that the performance should be sufficient to be able to take the vehicle for a relaxed lap at the weekend.

Our Conclusion to the extraordinary Mercury from 1950:

An absolute exotic when it comes to restomods, and probably one of the most spectacular projects of its kind.
