Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W464) for the military and authorities!

While in this country only the luxury variant W463 or W464 of the Mercedes G-Class can be found, in other countries there is still the G-Class Military specification the series W461. And that has remained almost unchanged since 1992. But that's changing now, because Mercedes-Benz presented a new military G for Europe in Graz. And one "Special-Ops" G-Class of the W464 series, which will soon be available exclusively for government agencies and the military "for rescue and special operations" Will be available.

the W461 will continue to be built

At the same time, the W461 will continue to be manufactured. The shown G from Graz (a G 350 d W 464) presents the most extensive “model upgrade” in the history of the military G model for 20 years. A new three-liter in-line six-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 249 hp and 600 Nm torque is installed and there is also a state-of-the-art 9-speed automatic which is operated using a selector lever on the steering wheel. We have listed the rest of the main changes:

  • with off-road control center and switches for reduction (low / high), 3 x differential locks (gear lock, ESP off switch, etc.)
  • optionally available "Emergency Override Switch" (bridges the emergency running of the vehicle)
  • Center console with space for the installation of radio and navigation technology
  • compared to the W 461 a good 65 PS more power (249 PS & 600 NM)
  • 16 inch wheels and 265 / 75-16 AT3 All Terrain tires from General Tire
  • Chassis with stops of the trailing arm under the ladder frame
  • Ground clearance under the differential 22 cm
  • Watt depth 66 cm
  • standard snorkel for the engine intake air
  • Load space with C-rails for securing the load
  • Protected ex works against (EMP) electromagnetic impact
  • On-board power supply divided into two circuits (24 volts for military installations, 12V for the vehicle)
  • The vehicle can be started externally with 24V and 12V
  • Radio in a new roof console
  • narrower seats
  • Rear doors that open 90 degrees
  • Station wagon can load 1.000 kilograms (200 on the roof with luggage rack)
  • permissible total weight 3,49 tons
