New Continental MultiViu Sports-Diplays for motorcycles!

With the MultiViu Sports display platform, Continental is launching a highly compatible instrument cluster for motorcycles and scooters. The MultiViu Sports Displays are based on a scalable development platform that can be easily adapted to the different needs of completely different groups of motorcyclists. With KTM, a large and traditional manufacturer has already used the platform. The Austrians will equip their KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S with the seven-inch MultiViu Sports 7. It offers the best graphic quality in order to be able to display the increasing amount of driver information in a clear and structured manner.

Versatility is the key: MultiViu Sports suits every type of motorcyclist

  • Extremely adaptable and scalable: platform approach enables maximum flexibility and high efficiency
  • KTM is already equipping its KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R with MultiViu Sports displays
  • Crystal clear: automotive grade displays with optical bonding technology

“Anyone who decides on a motorcycle is making a lifestyle decision. The rider of a lowrider machine differs a lot from the rider of a cross bike, ”explains Patric Zimmermann, product manager responsible for 2-wheeler displays at Continental. “But both of them attach great importance to the way information is presented to them on their display, the quality of the display should not drop compared to the smartphone and the content of the display must match individual preferences.” Based on this knowledge, Continental has developed for its MulitiViu Sports -Displays created a software platform on which the manufacturers of motorcycles and scooters can put together exactly the combination of content in exactly the form that suits the individual needs of their respective customers.

The hardware is also based on a platform, different sizes and aspect ratios, landscape and portrait can easily be implemented in the desired design language without having to redesign from scratch. The TFT display stands out not only through very good technical values such as a typical resolution of 800 × 480 pixels (with display sizes of 5 or 7 inches), a typical brightness value of 1.000 cd / m2 and a typical contrast of 1.000: 1 . The use of optical bonding technology prevents the display pane from fogging up and enables reflection-free readability. Fingerprints are reduced by glass coatings, and anti-glare and anti-reflection coatings can further optimize readability.

The same interior for efficiency, individual user interface for the driving experience

"With MultiViu Sports we are not just presenting a new generation of displays to the motorcycle world," says Patric Zimmermann, "it is an opportunity for the industry through the skillful use of a common backend while at the same time the front-end automotive display technology is extremely customizable to bring it into the motorcycle cost-effectively, even with smaller quantities. ”The MultiViu Sports platform also enables a higher speed of planning (time to market), displays can go into series production faster.

The developers at Continental designed the platform in such a way that not only the visual content of the display can be customized to a high degree. The supplier can also integrate external services, such as weather information or music streaming, together with the manufacturers. An openly designed app connects the driver's smartphone to the motorcycle via Bluetooth Low Energy. Customization is already taking the next step. And in other areas too, when designing the platform, Continental thought of the future of technology and user behavior: Touch functionality for the display, for example, will be possible with MultiViu Sports in the future.
