Modern Diesel-Vehicles are unthinkable without AdBlue, because the urea is for the emission control responsible. What exactly is AdBlue?
AdBlue is an aqueous urea solution that is sold by the German Auto Industry Association (VDA). The solution is tailored to vehicles of the newer diesel generation with SCR catalytic converters. AdBlue supplements the usual diesel fuel and must be added regularly. The proportion of urea makes up between three and five percent of the amount of diesel. When used correctly, AdBlue reduces the emission of nitrogen oxides. As a result, the vehicle meets the Euro6 emissions standard.
Refill as soon as possible!
Since AdBlue additional tanks have different sizes, they have to be refilled with different frequency. The range extends from 5.000 to 15.000 kilometers. As a rule, you cannot calculate the frequency yourself, as the vehicle automatically draws the driver's attention to the fact that there is not enough AdBlue in the tank. The request to top up must be followed as soon as possible, otherwise the vehicle may no longer start if there is not enough additive in the tank.
How long does AdBlue keep?
Incidentally, the fuel additive product AdBlue can be stored for up to twelve months if stored correctly. Provided it is stored properly. The temperature in the storage room should be no more than -5 and no more than plus 20 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, direct sunlight (temperatures above 30 degrees) should be avoided. The storage room should also have good ventilation. After the end of the shelf life, the additive can no longer be used. It changes its consistency as the molecules gradually begin to break down. If AdBlue is used anyway, it can result in irreparable damage to the engine and catalytic converter.
