We recently received an interesting question from one of our readers. jaschko asked us something about "Led Stripes for lighting", which we refer to in our report "Led stripes for lighting the headlights? Illegal!“ enter. According to his opinion, LED strips that have an E number (E24 and reference 87R03/05 1287/00), such as those from Dunlop (see pictures below) actually LEGAL, right?

Our assessment: JA you may install the Dunlop parts on the vehicle and use them according to the product regulations. Of course, care must be taken to ensure that the components are connected and attached as intended by the manufacturer. You may only sit on the outer edge of the headlight and the light exit (similar to one headlight bezel) do not hinder. But in principle, the LED strips shown in the photo below are not subject to registration. The printed E number confirms this. The number indicates the country in which the approval process for the component was carried out. In this case it was Ireland.
This post is not legal advice! It only reflects our experience/assessment with this topic!
Of course, that wasn't the end of it.
