ABT CUPRA XE will also compete in Extreme E in 2022

In time for the finale of the first Extreme E season this weekend (December 17-19) in Great Britain, ABT CUPRA XE has set the course for the future: ABT Sportsline and CUPRA will again be a team in the spectacular series for next year form purely electric off-road SUVs. "As much as we liked the first season of this new motorsport adventure: Extreme E is 'unfinished business' for us," says ABT CEO Thomas Biermaier. “ABT and our partners aim to win races and fight for the championship. We didn't manage to do that this season for a variety of reasons, so I'm already looking forward to attacking again in 2022. ”As the largest, close partner and namesake of the team, CUPRA will continue to be there when the season opener takes place in Saudi Arabia in February.

ABT sports marketing boss Harry Unflath is in contact with other potential partners and sponsors in order to put together a strong team. For the last time this season Mattias Ekström and Jutta Kleinschmidt want to reach for an Extreme E-Cup - preferably the biggest one, of course. The finals of the first season will be held on the south coast of Great Britain, at the Bovington military base. ABT CUPRA XE may no longer have any championship chances, but is still fighting for a place in the top three. With 83 points, the team is fifth on the table and can still overtake Andretti United Extreme E and JBXE.

Jutta Kleinschmidt: "Want to win a trophy in Dorset too"

“The podium finish last time in Sardinia was a nice reward for the hard work of the whole team,” says Jutta Kleinschmidt. For the first and so far only winner of the famous Dakar Rally, however, this is nothing at all to rest on. “A place on the podium and the fight for victory is our team's claim in every single race. The objective is therefore clear: We want to win a trophy in Dorset as well. ”After dune sand, scree and finally a board-hard track, the drivers in Great Britain can expect a lot of mud and rain. Even if a lap is around four kilometers shorter than usual, the route inspection is of particular importance. "Learning all the details of the route with just one lap and then on foot is one of the greatest challenges in Extreme E."

Mattias Ekström: "It's important that all doors stay on the car ..."

Mattias Ekström's approach to the last event of the year has not changed. “We'll throw everything into the final again. As in every race, the goal is a trophy - and of course the biggest one. ”The Swede secured second place most recently in Sardinia with a badly damaged car. “It gets wet and slushy in Dorset. So it would be important that all doors stay on the car this time ... "

Extreme E live on ProSieben MAXX and ran.de

In Germany, ProSieben MAXX will broadcast live from Great Britain on Sunday, December 19 from 13:00 p.m. Eddie Mielke, whom the fans already know from the DTM and Formula E broadcasts, will comment on the races. The qualifying sessions on Saturday (from 11 a.m.) and the semi-finals on Sunday (from 11 a.m.) run on ran.de and on the Extreme E channels. A full list of all channels is available here: extreme-e.com

GridPlay: This is how fans can support ABT CUPRA XE

The best starting position in the final can bring a preliminary decision - and that is in the hands of the fans. From December 15 until 60 minutes after the start of the “Crazy Race” on Sunday, fans can vote twice a day on the Extreme-E website or on Twitter using the hashtags “#GridPlay #JuttaKleinschmidt” or “#GridPlay # MattiasEkström”. The votes are added up, the team with the most fans can choose its position. Additional strategic element: the teams that do not reach the final also play an important role by passing their votes on to a team of their choice.

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
