2020 Cupra Leon - Spanish hot hatch with 306 hp!

Now, after the Seat Leon, the sport version of the dashing Spaniard has finally been presented. Like its civil brother, Seat Leon, the Cupra Leon is of course based on the MQB construction kit from VW, and shares the floor pan with the current VW Golf 8 and the brand new Skoda Octavia, which is already available in the fourth generation. The model is also available as a hatchback and a station wagon version called the ST. Many Seat Tuning fans will be delighted to finally see the new Cupra Leon after the "normal" Leon version was presented to the public on January 28th. At first it was a little too good, because it was basically just a further development of the styling already known from the SUV called Seat Tarraco. In this case, many Seat fans and tuning friends had hoped for a sportier design with more pep.

prominent Cupra emblem

The exterior design of the new Leon is particularly pretted up at the front with the larger air intakes and the grill with the Cupra emblem, which further emphasizes the sporty touch of the car. The bronze rims, which come in 19-inch format and give the car a special character, contribute to the fact that the new Cupra Leon is a very special hot-hatch and do not hide from any other competitor from Asia or Europe got to. In the interior, the new Leon also offers a 10-inch infotainment system and a 10,25-inch digital cockpit display as standard. The sporty Spaniard is thus excellently equipped for the future.

Three motor variants are available as drive sources.

Under the hood, a 2-liter TSI engine from the VW shelf is always doing its job, which will be available in three different power levels. In the basic version, the engine delivers 245 HP and 370 Newton meters of maximum torque, while in the middle version it puts 300 HP and 400 Newton meters of torque on the drive shaft. Cupra Leon ST customers who want a particularly sporty station wagon in the garage can also order a 306 PS version of the Cupra Leon ST, which also provides 400 Newton meters of maximum torque to underline their sporty aspirations. Equipped in this way, the sportiest Cupra Leon ST should sprint from 4,8 to 0 km / h in a breathtaking 100 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

7-speed dual clutch transmission

Unfortunately, you will have to go to a tuning company to remove the speed limit, as Cupra does not plan to remove the electronic control. The two weaker versions are boosted by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that sends the power to the front wheels, while the most powerful version, which is only available in the ST, gets all-wheel drive. However, all variants have a limited slip differential in order to transfer the power to the road without sacrificing power. In addition, there will also be a plug-in hybrid version, which we reported a few days ago, which has 245 PS and 400 Newton meters of maximum torque, and will reach a maximum electric range of 60 km.

Cupra Leon redefined.

With this model, the Cupra Leon is taking a big step into the future, and at the same time proving that there is still a future for compact sports cars that are intended for people who value sportiness and design in road traffic, far from eco-debates and the turnaround in traffic without having to dig too deep into your pocket. The plug-in hybrid will also satisfy people with a green conscience who sometimes want to be on the go. The prices of the new Cupra Leon are not yet known, but will be announced in time for the premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.
