The Seat Leon Cupra enjoys a very high reputation in the tuning scene, because it is the technical brother of the VW Golf and the VAG tuning scene is very active in Germany. After the new Seat Leon, which is scheduled to come onto the market in the middle of the year, was officially presented to the public on January 28, there is now initial information and a teaser image for the upcoming Cupra Leon PHEV, the first sporty plug-in hybrid from Spaniards, while the first kings of the upcoming GTI fighter diligently do their test laps so that all components installed in the vehicle work smoothly at the market launch and do not cause any problems.

The plug-in hybrid drive was already introduced in the Skoda group brother and it is the new 1,4-liter TSI, which was combined with an electric motor with a 13 kWh battery. The purely electrical range is expected to be 55 km according to the NEDC cycle and the system output is 245 hp. Equipped with this, Seat expects a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in about 6,5 seconds. Information about the maximum speed is not yet available, but it should be in the range of 240 km / h, and is therefore sufficient for the hot-hatch with hybrid drive. The power transmission is most likely via a 7-speed direct transmission, which is called DSG in the VW group. Due to the hybrid drive, it is almost impossible that the Leon PHEV will be available with a hand switch.
Who is the Cupra Leon PHEV for?
The new Cupra Leon PHEV is a sporty hybrid, which was designed for all tuning fans and car lovers who have a green conscience in addition to the fun of sporty driving. It also makes it clear that a plug-in hybrid has become socially acceptable in the GTI class, and embodies the future of hot hatches. However, the additional electric motor should make it much more complex to make modifications to the drive train than in a Cupra with a petrol engine. But nothing is impossible if you take a closer look at what the VAG tuning community is doing. Resourceful inventors and technology experts continue to amaze the experts when it comes to turning their VWs, Seats or Audis into unique pieces that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
The price has not yet been determined.
Unfortunately, nothing is known about the prices, except that they are likely to be slightly below the starting price for a Golf 8 GTE. So it is a tradition at Seat that the price is always slightly below the parent company. As a result, the Leon has also become an absolute bestseller because, in addition to solid Volkswagen technology, it also has a sporty design, and is still cheaper than its platform dispenser called VW Golf.
