Mitsuoka is known for crazy creations that are loved all over the world. The eighth largest automobile manufacturer in Japan consistently relies on retro elements and combines vintage design with the latest technology. Now the latest work of the manufactory has been unveiled. It is based on the Toyota Yaris and answers to the name Mitsuoka Views Story. We would like to present this vehicle to you today, which costs the equivalent of €22.000 in the basic version.
Vintage design causes a stir!
Similarities with British classics are of course wanted, because at Mitsuoka they love to skillfully quote the historical models of British automotive art. So it is hardly surprising that the new Viewt Story has a front end in the style of classic Jaguar models and in particular wants to pay a stylistic homage to the 1963 Jaguar Mark II. In contrast to its predecessors, some of which were based on Nissan or Mazda models, the new Viewt, which was given the nickname Story, is technically closely related to the Toyota Yaris, but its redesigned design makes it 70 millimeters longer than its brother.
Length and width are 1,695 m and 1,515 m, however, identical to the Toyota. From the rear, however, nothing is reminiscent of a Jaguar, but the rear section clearly picks up on the design of a Fiat 500, but without copying it tastelessly. The side view is extremely unusual, as it is characterized by a distinctive light edge and various beads. There are also bulbous fenders, which harmonize perfectly with the vintage design. Mitsuoka chose 14-inch steel wheels with a chrome look for the wheel set, which also underlines the retro look of the car.
State-of-the-art in terms of safety!
Anyone who thinks that such a retro vehicle is also outdated in terms of safety is on the wrong track. Equipped with the latest driver assistance systems, the mitsuoka the latest Toyota technology such as the Toyota Safety Sense package and numerous airbags.
The interior looks a bit like a retro vehicle!
Although many of the switches and controls come from the Yaris, the cream-colored leather on the dashboard and on the seats underlines the retro claim of the vehicle. The cockpit is therefore more comfortable than in the Toyota sister model, which has a very sober interior design.
Three engine variants are on offer!
A 1-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1,5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1,5-liter full hybrid are available as power sources. Thus, the engine range is identical to the JDM Spec Yaris. The power is between 68 and 116 hp, with the hybrid engine, which combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, having the highest performance. Power is transmitted via either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox, and there is a choice of front-wheel drive or permanent four-wheel drive. Unfortunately, we have no information on the performance, but it should be similar to the Yaris.
Our conclusion:
- Those who like retro will love Mitsuoka! For a whole 30 years (gen1 came onto the market in 1993) the viewt already exists, and that's a good thing. The likeable car manufacturer from the land of smiles has once again done a great job. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
