The further development and electrification of the drive enable even more spontaneous power delivery. The dynamic and extravagant charisma of both models is underlined by fresh design accents. Digital technology not only ensures optimized operation, but also advances in the field of automated driving and parking systems.

First high-performance models from BMW M GmbH with 48-volt technology.

With the latest generation of drive technology for the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition, 48-volt technology is being used for the first time in the brand's high-performance automobiles. An electric motor, which is integrated into the compact housing of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and also acts as a crankshaft starter generator, supplies additional drive power of up to 9 kW/12 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. The energy required for this is supplied by a 48-volt battery housed in the engine compartment. It is charged in a particularly efficient manner using adaptive recuperation during overrun and braking phases.

The 48-volt technology is combined with a new M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. In addition to the exhaust manifold across the cylinder banks, the 4,4-liter engine now also has a reinforced crank drive, a further developed turbocharger, a new intake air duct and optimized oil supply and oil separation. Between 1 and 800 minutes-1 it makes its maximum torque of 750 Nm available. The maximum output of 460 kW/625 hp is achieved at 6 rpm-1 reached.

The optimized response behavior and the high-revving concept of the V8 engine, together with the support provided by the electric motor, ensure that the typical M performance characteristics reach an even more fascinating level. The new BMW X100 M Competition and the new BMW X5 M Competition both need 6 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 3,9 km/h. Furthermore, the increased temperament of the drive system is also clearly noticeable during intermediate sprints. The standard M sports exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps enriches the performance experience with an emotionally powerful engine sound. New catalytic converters contribute to the optimized emission behavior of the combustion engine.

Precise power transmission: new 8-speed M Steptronc transmission with Drivelogic, newly applied M xDrive, active M differential.

The engine transmits its drive torque to a new version of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which offers a choice of three shift programs in both automated and manual mode. The innovations include, among other things, a modified transmission tuning and increased shifting dynamics.

The newly applied version of the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which is combined with the Active M differential in the rear axle drive, also contributes to the characteristic performance experience in the new BMW X5 M Competition and in the new BMW X6 M Competition. In addition to the basic 4WD setting, the driver can use the M Setup menu to select the 4WD Sport mode, which enables controlled drifts thanks to a particularly rear-wheel-biased distribution of the drive torque.

Precise chassis tuning for superior performance.

The body structure and chassis connection are particularly rigid in order to guarantee the typical M combination of dynamics, agility and precision in handling. In addition, the suspension and damping systems allow a maximum range between uncompromising sportiness and long-distance comfort. Modified toe-in values on the rear axle ensure even more sovereignty at high driving speeds.

The standard equipment includes the Adaptive M suspension Professional with newly applied electronically controlled shock absorbers and active roll stabilization. A modified application of the steering gear ensures that the ratio of the M Servotronic steering is even more intensively designed for high driving dynamics. The M compound brake system is combined with the latest generation of the integrated brake system, the M-specific design of which enables two characteristics to be displayed for pedal feel.

The M xDrive all-wheel drive system and the Active M Differential in the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition are no longer only networked with the driving stability control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), but for the first time also with the actuator-related wheel slip limitation. This ensures even faster and more precise reactions to changing driving situations and increased traction.

Both models come as standard with a combination of 21-inch M light-alloy wheels on the front axle and 22-inch M light-alloy wheels on the rear axle. Forged M light-alloy wheels in the same dimensions are available as an option, including a new version in jet black non-metallic.

Exclusive appearance with significantly increased presence.

Dominant sportiness and an extrovert appearance characterize the exterior design of the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition. The redesigned front view primarily contributes to the increased presence. Both models now have new Matrix LED headlights with cornering lights and anti-glare BMW Selective Beam high beam. The headlight units have a contour that is 35 millimeters flatter than the previous version. They are also optionally available as M Shadow Line lights. The BMW kidney is now completely black. Horizontal kidney grille slats and enlarged model lettering set distinctive accents. In addition, the BMW kidney grille and the central lower air intake now form a common x-shaped area in black.

The clear design language and the independent proportions of the two models are expressed in the side view. Your exterior mirror caps and the rear spoiler of the BMW X6 M Competition are optionally available in carbon. In both models, a striking diffuser insert closes the rear apron at the bottom. It also provides a high-quality frame for the two characteristic pairs of twin tailpipes in the exhaust system. An additional eye-catcher at the rear of the new BMW X5 M Competition are the X-shaped light guide elements of its tail and brake lights.

More modern, more digital, more exclusive: M Cockpit with BMW Curved Display.

The focus of the redesign in the interior of the new BMW X5 M Competition and the new BMW X6 M Competition is the BMW Curved Display, which gives the typical M cockpit a modern and at the same time exclusive appearance. It consists of a 12,3-inch (approx. 31 cm) information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14,9 inches (approx. 38 cm) under a shared glass surface. The touch function of the control display enables a significant reduction in buttons and controls in favor of digital control of numerous functions.

The scope of functions for the standard front collision warning has been expanded, which now also reduces the risk of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians and oncoming vehicles when turning. The lane departure warning is supplemented by lane return with steering assistance. Options now include automatic Speed Limit Assist, exit warning, active navigation guidance, route control, traffic light recognition (market-dependent), emergency stop, lane change and merging assistants.

The new, optionally available Parking Assistant Professional makes it possible to control automated parking and parking maneuvers as well as complete maneuvers up to 200 meters outside the vehicle via the My BMW app with the Apple iPhone. The driver has the option of controlling the respective maneuver either in the vehicle or from the outside while monitoring the environment.

Typical M operating concept, new digital services.

The M-specific operating concept includes the setup button for direct access to the setting options for the engine, chassis, steering, brake system and M xDrive. The scope of the display and the range of functions of the driver assistance systems can also be configured individually. After pressing the M Mode button on the center console, the driver can choose between the settings ROAD, SPORT and TRACK.
