Emilia GT Veloce: a Restomod based on the Alfa "Bertone" Coupé!

Last fall, Emilia Auto's announcement that it would be launching a restomod based on the iconic Alfa Giulia GT ("Bertone"), which is equipped with the V6 biturbo engine of the modern Giulia Quadrifoglio, caused an international sensation. Since then, the development team has continued to work diligently and has now published new pictures of the latest development status, which largely correspond to the later series status and take all technical requirements into account. Among other things, we see modified rims with larger openings for brake cooling, which are still based on a classic Alfa model. The attention to detail can also be seen in the subtleties such as the exterior mirrors (electrically heated and adjustable), the fuel tank cap and the attachment of the front license plate.

The fine-tuning of the front hood is more striking: its lines have been further optimized and the striking "edge", reminiscent of the famous original from Alfa Romeo, the "Scalino" or edge hood, has been lowered. So it remains as a typical design feature without disturbing the flowing and elegant lines. In addition, the hood is now designed to hide the wiper shafts, making the line even more sober and elegant. Hardly recognizable in the pictures: The overall length of the vehicle has increased slightly by around 50 mm to give the two charge air coolers the necessary space at the front. With an overall length of only around 4,06 m, the car is still much more compact than modern sports cars. The construction is also under the outer skin: the torsion-resistant and at the same time light spaceframe, which accommodates the drive and chassis, along with the integrated roll bar, is complete.

Parallel to the extensive design work - after all, a new vehicle is created that has to meet all the requirements - work was carried out on the aspects of production for the small series: the assembly sequence was determined and work was carried out on the structure of the supply chains, from the procurement and disassembly of the donor vehicle and its Restoration through the production of the new parts to painting and final assembly. Unfortunately, many suppliers are currently affected by disruptions in the supply chains, which means that Emilia Auto is slightly behind the original schedule at the moment. However, the aim is still to present the first ready-to-drive vehicle to the media and customers this year and to begin deliveries of customer vehicles next year as planned. One to two vehicles should then leave final assembly every month.

only 22 vehicles are built

A total of 22 examples of the Emilia GT Veloce will be built, all customized according to customer requirements. Technical details that were still open were also clarified in the course of construction: the cars will always be equipped with ESP, for example, and a reversing camera is optionally available. An infotainment system with an 8,8" touchscreen is integrated into the center console, and the air conditioning functions are controlled in the classic way using knobs and buttons. Full LED headlights and fog lights ensure perfect illumination of the road. The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and heated. Central locking is also standard, as is an electric trunk release and an electric parking brake.

In the exterior and interior, the following equipment details, among others, can be customized at the customer's request:

  • Trim parts in a matt or glossy look, silver or black
  • Rims in the color of your choice
  • Brake calipers in the color of your choice
  • Color and material of upholstery fabric for headlining, seats and door panels as well as luggage racks behind the seats
  • Design of the steering wheel rim and gear knob, eg in wood or leather
  • Carpets in color and material
  • Design of the front of the dashboard - eg wood, aluminum or body color
  •  Cover of the roll bar
  • There will also be variations in the sound and infotainment system.

Based on the body of a GT Junior donor vehicle from 1970, the first prototype is currently being built. A 2018 Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio provides the engine, transmission and other technical components. On the test bench, the engine for the prototype has already achieved an effective 540 hp (397 kW). So a lot above the factory specification - one is satisfied: "Sufficient" performance should therefore be available! There are currently still a few production slots available for the second half of 2 - so pre-orders can still be placed.

To the Emilia GT Veloce

The Hamburg-based classic car and sports car specialist Emilia Auto has created a restomod based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT (also known as "Alfa Bertone" by the locals) - with modern, top-class technology for maximum driving pleasure. Based on the historic Alfa Romeo Giulia GT (1963), a high-performance powerhouse is created. The most important components: a V6 biturbo with over 500 hp from the current Alfa Romeo portfolio, chassis components tried and tested in motorsport, ultra-light carbon and an interior in manufacturing quality. An original Alfa Romeo Giulia GT is used as the basis for each example, the bodywork of which is restored, adjusted and then "married" to the newly developed high-strength substructure and modern components.

The original Bertone design was modified only where it was necessary for performance. Underneath the body, on the other hand, the chassis had to be practically completely redeveloped, because where 375 kW (510 hp) meets a dry weight of around 1250 kg, high-performance chassis components are required. For maximum control and safety even in extreme driving situations. The prices – including German VAT – are just over 400.000 euros. Of course, road approval is possible throughout Europe.

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all?
