It's been a long time since Ford strived to be with that Continental Mark II to get a share of the exclusive luxury segment, even above the premium brand at the time Lincoln. The answer was to be the founding of the Continental Division in 1952, which turned the previous Lincoln Continental into its own brand name. At the end of 1955 the final model, the Continental Mark II, presented as a coupé with a length of 5,60 meters and a 6,0 liter V8. It had luxurious features such as electric seats, windows, power brakes and power steering. One was even optional Climate & Environment available. The high price of almost $10.000 – a fortune for that time – but made the Continental Mark II a flop despite its exclusivity. One of the almost 3.000 copies built was by the Moore Brothers in an extensive Restomod project completely rebuilt and modernized.
Continental Mark II as a restomod
However, the conversion was years ago and once it was completed, the car did not remain in the builder's possession for long, but was auctioned off several times, including by the auction house RM Sotheby's. Body of the classic is basically the only thing that remained in series condition. It was completely stripped of paint, prepared and then installed DuPont Black newly painted. To match this, 17-inch ones were created Truespoke Wire Wheels with real cross spokes and Whitewall tires of dimension 235/55 R17 installed. However, the real highlight is hidden under the sheet metal: the engine is a 7,9 liter V8 from Robert Pond Motorsports, equipped with Edelbrock cylinder heads, Scat Performance crankshaft & connecting rods, CP pistons & Comp Cams camshafts. In addition, a MSD ignition distributor, a electronic fuel injection with Weber IDA throttle bodies and a Edelbrock water pump installed.
650 hp go to the rear axle
The powerhouse has been delivering powerful performance since tuning 650 PSthat through a GM four-speed automatic be transmitted. One also ensures the necessary security Wilwood disc brake system. And the Suspension was of course also fundamentally modernized and to a new one Custom chassis converted with independent suspension and chrome-plated struts. Even the cabin received a major makeover, with eye-catching red Manager, the seats, custom center console and the Steering wheel decorated by Billet Specialties. Modern elements like one Kenwood head unit with CD and DVD player as well as a Hot rod air conditioning complete the overall picture. At the RM Sotheby's auction, the Continental Mark II ultimately achieved a selling price of $154.000 - a tidy sum for a vehicle that combines classic luxury with state-of-the-art technology in perfect harmony.
