Porsche has always relied on pioneering prototypes to guide its future plans. This era continues with a brand new concept car. Dubbed Mission X, the new baby is an intriguing reinterpretation of a hypercar, featuring futuristic Le Mans doors that open upwards and forwards, coupled with a powerful and energy-efficient electric powertrain. On June 8, 2023, the eve of the special exhibition "75 years of Porsche sports cars“ in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, the two-seat wonder Mission X had its grand entrance. On the same date, but 75 years earlier, the 356 received “No. 1" Roadster, the first vehicle produced under the Porsche name, its official registration, and the sports car legend was born.
Porsche Mission
"The Porsche Mission X is a shining beacon for the sports cars of the future, standing in the shadow of great legends such as the 959, Carrera GT and 918 Spyder", explained Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG, during the presentation of the vehicle. "We are known for daring dreams and producing dream cars: Porsche has reinvented itself over and over again and yet has always remained Porsche. With its compact dimensions of 4,5 meters long and 2 meters wide, the Mission X is a rather small representative of its hypercar class.
Its wheelbase of 2,73 meters is the same as that of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. For maximum driving performance, the car uses mixed tires: 20-inch front and 21-inch rear. The Mission X is synonymous with top performance and modern-day luxury and, with its sculptural design and powerful lines, shows that hypercars don't have to look threatening. Its flat body, less than 1,20 meters high, gleams in the Rocket Metallic paint specially developed for this study.
Power to weight of 1kg/hp
Target power-to-weight of 1 kg/hp Porsche is both a symbol of electric performance and a pioneer of sustainable mobility, and the latest model delivers on both promises. Should the Mission X go into production, it aims for the goals described below:
- He wants to be the fastest legal street racer on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife
- he is aiming for a power-to-weight ratio of around one kilo per horsepower
- he strives for downforce values that are far above those of the current 911 GT3 RS
- and with its 900-volt system architecture, it promises a significantly better charging speed, which is about twice that of the current Porsche top model, the Taycan Turbo S.
