With electric drive: the limited AC Cobra Series I electric 2020

From manufacturer AC automotive (AC Cars) we are currently receiving information that the Cobra sports car is to be reissued as an electric car in a limited small series of only 58 vehicles. In other words, the Cobra swaps its huge V8 bollling for an electric whine. Whether the die-hard purists like this remains to be seen. And the limited number of only 58 vehicles is of course no accident. The first AC Cobra was presented 58 years ago in 1962 and the AC Cobra Series I electric (Full name) is intended to be a precise reminder of this with the edition of only 58 vehicles. And this is particularly evident in the optics, which are based on the Cobra from 1962.

The design from back then sits on a modern ladder frame chassis and is adapted to today's standards with ultra-modern components such as a new brake system, power steering and many other details. There are also four colors in AC electric blue, AC electric black, AC electric white and AC electric green. The highlight, however, is definitely the electrification of the Cobra. AC Cars installs a 54 kWh battery that supplies a 230 kW (312 PS) & max. 500 NM (250 NM constant) motor with power and enables the British, who weighs less than 1.250 kg, to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 6,7 seconds.

Range up to 240 kilometers

According to AC Cars, the range is up to 240 kilometers depending on the driving style. Not bad driving performance but of course not to be compared with some modified Cobras with V8. Incidentally, the cabin of the Cobra shows itself with the traditional interior from that time, which only inconspicuously houses a few current components. However, the price is less traditional. At over 150.000 euros (before tax), it is even significantly higher than the approx. 94.000 euros “140 Charter Edition” of the Cobra. It also corresponds more or less to the principle of the 62 Cobra, but has built in the 2,3-liter engine with 350 hp from the Ford Mustang. So it will be interesting to see whether the interest is big enough. Should we get more details about the limited AC Cobra Series I electric received, there is of course an update for this report.
