After the  BMW M2 F87 Coupe with 450PS The team from Lightweight Performance struck again and again with an M2. Also this time it is the basis for an even more radical tuning track tool that goes by the name BMW M2 CSR and so far is probably the sharpest and fastest variant of the tuner. Like the name Lightweight Performance Already suggests, the focus in this project was on the optimal power-to-weight ratio. But not only does less weight live up to its name, but also a whole helping of more power. The M2 has slimmed down to a combat weight of only 1.371 kilograms and under the bonnet, the brute 621 hp was immediately put into operation. Anyone who has calculated will find that the M2 achieves a power-to-weight ratio of only 2,2 kilograms per hp, which probably makes a lot of super athletes look old.

The tough diet includes a carbon roof and a newly developed engine hood including a power dome, a new trunk lid and even the doors are now made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The extendable front splitter on the front M bumper, the sporty diffuser insert for the rear apron and of course the unmistakable rear wing are also made of carbon. These components also ensure significantly more downforce on the front and rear axles and make the M2 so strong, especially on the racetrack. But it wasn't just on the outside, but also on the inside. It was cleaned up a lot and everything that could prevent fast lap times was thrown out. Specifically, that means that there is no more back seat but a red painted roll cage, even the heavy series seats are history because they have been replaced by light carbon seat shells.

The door panels, the center console, the footwell tubs and even the parcel shelf are made of the lightweight material from now on. From now on, 6-point seat belts ensure more safety for the driver and front passenger. Once they have been put on, the occupants have a firm grip. In order to reduce the total weight even further, Makrolon windows are also used, and even the high-quality carbon-ceramic brake system is lighter than the series counterpart and also significantly more snappy. The titanium exhaust system from the downpipe also contributes to the perfect BMI, which of course also brings out a brilliant soundscape. The fact that the sound is not just an appearance shows when you look under the hood and at the data sheet. Hidden under a chic carbon engine cover is the S55 biturbo in-line six-cylinder with water injection, which we only know from the M4 GTS in this combination!

The engine already has an output of 500 hp ex works. But not only the engine was taken over but also the 7-speed DCT from the GTS which was adapted accordingly. But of course a lot of changes are required for the 621PS to do its job. Therefore modified turbochargers as well as an improved intake system and of course an individual chip tuning software were installed. However, Lightweight does not really recommend the top performance of 621 PS because in terms of drivability, the company relies on software that provides an output of 598 PS and 737 Newton meters of torque with better controllability.

Whether one notices a difference? 🙂 Another highlight is the Clubsport chassis, coordinated with Bilstein Motorsport, which enables significantly more sportiness and, of course, individual lowering. A Drexler mechanical limited-slip differential and a set of red forged wheels in 19 inch with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires were also installed. To prove that the M2 is not just a show bunny, Lightweight has become the FIA GT World Champion Marc Basseng which will soon be able to prove the potential of the M2 on various racetracks. It is best to subscribe to our feed and if there is something new you will be informed immediately. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures.
