Full edge: this is the new BMW M2 (G87)!

Compact dimensions in combination with drive and chassis technology adapted from the BMW M3/BMW M4 series characterize the vehicle concept, which gives the new edition of the two-door car fascinating agility and handling characteristics that can be mastered in a playful manner right up to the limit. These independent characteristics are also reflected in the expressive exterior design with athletic coupé proportions. Furthermore, the modern operating concept for individualizing the set-up enables a particularly intensive performance experience.

BMW M2 (G87)

With these qualities, the new BMW M2 continues the tradition of outstandingly sporty models with compact dimensions that was established in 1973 with the BMW 2002 turbo. At the same time, it continues the success story of its predecessor, which sold almost 60 units worldwide. The global market launch of the new BMW M000 will begin in April 2. It will be produced together with the new BMW 2023 Series Coupé at the BMW Group plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Compact dimensions, extremely powerful proportions.

The athletic appearance of the new BMW M2 results from compact dimensions, extremely powerful proportions and typical M design features. Its wheelbase is 110 millimeters shorter and the exterior length 214 millimeters shorter than the models in the BMW M4 Coupé series. At the same time, the width and track width of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé are clearly exceeded. At the front of the vehicle, the large, frameless BMW kidney grille with its horizontal bars and a three-part lower air intake with almost rectangular contours ensure a typical M appearance. The design is based on the technical requirements in the areas of cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance.

The side view is characterized by clearly designed surfaces, wide side skirts and muscular wheel arches. The rear of the new BMW M2 also appears powerful and compact. The striking spoiler lip on the luggage compartment lid and the vertical reflectors set their own unique accents, as does the puristically designed diffuser insert in the rear apron and the two pairs of tailpipes on the exhaust system that are positioned far inwards. The five exterior paint finishes available for the new BMW M2 include the exclusive variants Zandvoort Blue non-metallic and Toronto Red metallic. An M carbon roof is available as an option, which reduces the vehicle weight by around six kilograms.

Six-cylinder in-line engine with spontaneous power delivery and thrilling revving.

Typical M performance characterizes the version of the in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving concept designed for the compact high-performance model. The 3,0 liter unit differs only in a few details from the engine used in the BMW M3/BMW M4 series and impresses with its spontaneous response, high revving ability and a linear power development up to the maximum load range.

With a maximum output of 338 kW/460 hp, the drive of the new BMW M2 exceeds the basic engine of its predecessor by 66 kW/90 hp. Between 2650 and 5870 minutes-1 it provides its maximum torque of 550 Nm. The new engine achieves its maximum output at a speed of 6250 rpm-1, its maximum speed is 7 200 rpm-1. The spirited power delivery is accompanied by an emotionally powerful engine sound, which is generated by the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps. Like the cooling system, the oil supply is also designed for particularly dynamic driving situations when used on the race track.

Performance experience of your choice: 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic as standard, 6-speed manual transmission as an option.

As standard, the drive torque is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. Its particularly high shift dynamics, its direct connection to the engine and the option of performing multiple downshifts down to the lowest drivable gear create the ideal conditions for fascinatingly spontaneous acceleration manoeuvres. It is operated via a gear selector switch in the current M design and shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Drivelogic offers three switching programs to choose from. A 6-speed manual transmission is available as an option for a classic-style performance experience with particularly intensive interaction between driver and vehicle.

It not only supports a sporty driving style with precisely defined shift travel, but also with a shift assistant whose connection speed control ensures slip-free clutch engagement after downshifting when braking before corners. If necessary, the shift assistant can be deactivated in the M Setup menu. With the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, the new BMW M2 completes the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4,1 seconds; in conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission, the corresponding value is 4,3 seconds. Acceleration from zero to 200 km/h is possible in 13,5 seconds (automatic transmission) or 14,3 seconds (manual transmission). The top speed limit of the new BMW M2 can be increased from 250 to 285 km/h by choosing the optional M Driver's Package.

Rear-wheel drive, M Traction Control and Active M Differential for tailor-made agility, precision and driving pleasure.

Regardless of the choice of gearbox, the traditional form of driving dynamics is also embodied by rear-wheel drive. The typical M linear build-up of lateral acceleration forces helps the driver, for example, to steer the new BMW M2 through corners with controlled drift maneuvers. The standard M Traction Control function also serves to bring you closer to the limits of driving physics in a controlled manner. It enables the driver to individually set the intervention thresholds for limiting wheel slip in ten stages.

The Active M differential in the rear axle drive, which also comes as standard, also ensures superior driving pleasure, which generates a locking effect of up to 100 percent steplessly and as required. For example, traction on roads with different coefficients of friction for the right and left rear wheel and power transmission when dynamically accelerating out of bends can be optimized.

High-quality chassis technology, precisely controllable handling.

The compact dimensions, the short wheelbase, the almost perfectly balanced 50:50 axle load distribution and the high-quality chassis technology of the new BMW M2 favor playfully light and precisely controllable handling. Agility, dynamics and precision also benefit from the high torsional rigidity of the body structure and the chassis connection with model-specific reinforcements.

Both the double-joint strut front axle and the five-link rear axle have M-specific kinematics. The standard equipment of the new BMW M2 includes an Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the M Servotronic steering with variable ratio, the driving stability control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) including M Dynamic Mode and a powerful M compound brake system with six-piston fixed caliper brakes front and single-piston floating caliper brakes at the rear. The integrated braking system enables two characteristic curves to be displayed for the pedal feel. The new BMW M2 is equipped with 19-inch light-alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch at the rear. The dimensions are thus one inch larger than the corresponding values in the basic equipment of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 models. Track tires are also available as an option.

Advanced sports car cockpit with BMW Curved Display as standard and optional M carbon bucket seats.

The new BMW M2 has a driver-oriented cockpit which, in addition to M-specific display content, operating units and setup settings, also includes the advanced BMW Curved Display. Information relevant to driving, including shift lights in a new graphic format, is shown on the 12,3-inch information display. Among other things, M-specific widgets for vehicle setup and tire condition can be shown on the 14,9-inch Control Display. The optional BMW Head-Up Display also offers M-specific displays.

Like the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the BMW Curved Display is part of the latest generation of the latest-generation BMW iDrive. It is based on the BMW Operating System 8 and was consistently designed for intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle using touch controls and natural language. The new BMW iDrive enables personalization with the BMW ID and the My BMW app as well as the use of a personal eSIM in the vehicle. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is also part of the standard equipment of the new BMW M2. A 5G-capable antenna system ensures optimized connectivity.

As standard, the driver and front passenger sit on sports seats with a model-specific design and Sensatec/Alcantara surfaces. Alternatively, M sports seats with integrated headrests and perforated surfaces in Vernasca/Sensatec leather are available. The M Carbon bucket seats, which are also available as an option, have carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the structural elements of the seat surface and backrest, as well as openings in the area of the side bolsters and below the headrests. This reduces the vehicle weight by around 10,8 kilograms.

3-zone automatic air conditioning, BMW Maps navigation system, setup button and M Drive Professional as standard.

The standard comfort features of the new BMW M2 include 3-zone automatic air conditioning, BMW Live Cockpit Plus, including the BMW Maps navigation system, ambient lighting and the hi-fi speaker system. In terms of systems for automated driving and parking, the front collision warning, the Speed Limit Info function with no-overtaking display, the lane departure warning and Park Distance Control come as standard. Options include the Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and the Parking Assistant, including reversing assistant. The setup button on the center console provides direct access to the setting options for the engine, chassis, steering, brake system and M Traction Control, as well as the shift assistant as an option. Two complete vehicle setups can be saved and called up using the M buttons on the steering wheel.

In addition to M Traction Control, the standard M Drive Professional system also includes the M Drift Analyzer and the M Laptimer. In addition, the activities of the driver assistance systems and the displays in the information display and in the head-up display can be influenced with the M Mode button on the center console. The settings ROAD, SPORT and TRACK are available for this. Other options include the M Race Track package. In addition to the M Driver's Package, it also includes the M carbon roof, M carbon bucket seats, interior trim strips in carbon fiber and track tires.
