Debut of the 5-door electric GT “Polestar XNUMX” at Goodwood!

Polestar will be making its first public debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed (23-26 June) with a development prototype of the Polestar 5. The Polestar 5 is a powerful four-door electric GT with real sports car qualities and the series development of the Precept concept vehicle, which was presented for the first time in 2020. Pete Allen, Head of Research & Development, Polestar UK: “The Polestar 5 is shaping up to be an excellent XNUMX-door GT and is a true Polestar at heart. The platform combines the characteristics of a low-volume performance car with modern technological advances, bringing the lightweight construction of highly rigid sports car chassis technology to mass production.”

The UK team took the opportunity to work with a new mechanical platform to design and develop a unique composite aluminum chassis. This is a key factor in delivering the driving dynamics characteristics that enable a driving experience that is as desirable as the design. Work is currently underway in Sweden on the development of a new top-class electric powertrain. A new rear electric motor will provide increased performance along with an 800-volt architecture.

In combination with a powerful front electric motor, the complete dual motor drive train should have 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm. Jörg Brandscheid, CTO and Head of Research & Development at Polestar: “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new benchmark for our high-performance vehicles and therefore for our brand. The combination of powerful electric motors and advances in lightweight platform technology results in a truly impressive vehicle.” The Polestar 5 will be climbing the iconic hill at Goodwood twice a day in the 'First Glance' group during the event. Scheduled for launch in 2024, the car is the third of three new electric cars that Polestar will launch in the next three years, following the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUVs.

a groundbreaking project for Polestar

A Polestar YouTube documentary series shows the company transforming the Precept concept car into the production Polestar 5, in much more detail than is typically seen in an automotive project. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar: “The Polestar 5 is a groundbreaking project for the company. Its progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar's future. We have great talent on board that allows us to create truly iconic electric cars.”
