More cult than VW has brought onto the market with the Beetle (type 5C) is actually hardly possible. The 5C is already the third successor to the “New Beetle (Type 9C)” and is fortunately only called “Beetle”. VW apparently noticed after all that the predecessor was just called that in common parlance. The H&R team is now cleverly staging the most iconic VW of the present. The US team from H&R lets the Beetle fly with a presentation vehicle based on a VW Beetle R. This is made possible by a coilover kit, stabilizers, wheel spacers, a Brembo brake system and thick 20-inch wheels at the front and rear. Every year H&R sets standards with spectacular projects. In 2017, it is the “VW Beetle R” project that the US team from the Sauerland company implemented this time. The basis couldn't be better, because the sportiest version of the cult car with the well-known VW EA888 2,0-liter GTI engine delivers a whopping 210 PS & 280 NM (since 11/2014 even 220PS & 350 NM) and manages it thanks to six-speed -Double clutch transmission in just 7,3 seconds to 100 km / h - the end is only at 230 things.
So there is enough power that, thanks to improved performance, is now optimally brought to the road. In order to optimize the driving characteristics of the Beetle, H&R installed a coilover kit with which it can be lowered by xx to xx. In addition, there are new dome bearings, stronger stabilizers and a widening of the track, which means that the Beetle is noticeably tighter on the road and cornering is similar to a go-kart. In order to bring the 1,4 tons to a standstill much more consistently, there was a significantly lighter high-performance brake system from Brembo, which replaces the series counterpart. The lower weight makes it possible to reduce the unsprung masses. Of course, the internally ventilated double discs, which are now 355 millimeters in size, which are gripped using a six-piston system, also ensure significantly improved deceleration. In addition, there were Goodridge stainless steel brake lines, which are responsible for an even more spontaneous brake response.
The factory-fitted 18 inch rims also had to give way. H&R has decided to swap these for highly polished 20-inch Forgeline GT1 models. The new wheelset is equipped with a particularly handy Michelin Sport Cup in the format 245/35 ZR20 at the front and 265/35 ZR20 at the rear. The new GSR rear spoiler and the ceramic-coated and larger exhaust ends on the right and left also contribute to the new outfit. The absolute eye-catchers, however, are clearly the two tornado-red decorative stripes that extend over the entire vehicle and can even be found in the interior. The interior door panels are also painted red and give the interior a special touch of color. A matching brand lettering on the doors below rounds off the significantly sportier overall impression.
