Paddy McGrath from Speedhunters magazine has once again discovered a spectacular vehicle. A Mazda FD3S RX-7 "without“Rotary engine. And there is no V8, 2JZ, RB26 or SR20 installed. Here is an engine under the hood that easily reaches a speed limit of over 9.000 rpm. Normally the others would already be out. And the engine even has a turbocharger with it. In view of such high speeds, this is certainly not a matter of course. The RX7 is at home in Ireland, where the great pictures were taken. But first we come to the changes to the spectacular body. A is installed Pandem widebody kit with a specialty! The kit shows up without the typical exposed screw connections all around. They were completely removed in painstaking detail. The rounded style of the Rocket Bunny kit goes well with the curved factory lines of the RX-7 and the smooth flared fenders underline the successful look.
with Japspeed carbon front splitter
Other changes outside are a 1999 front bumper with Japspeed carbonfront splitter and there was an original Mazda roof spoiler and a ducktail spoiler lip. And the owner "Alvi" made almost all changes on his own. Only special things like the wiring of the engine, the production of the exhaust manifold for the turbo conversion, the AEM Series 2 chip tuning software, the differential conversion and the final painting in Honda Formula Red were not carried out by him. The removal of the factory 13B turbo engine and the installation of the "F20C-Honda S2000" engine, however, are largely. The RX7 also got the 6-speed manual transmission of the S2000 and the complete one Motorswap took around four months. The biggest challenges were the modifications to the front subframe and the engine mount and the conversion of the steering. A hydraulic servo pump was required, which the S2000 also installed ex works.
current power of the S2000 engine -> 403 PS
And from the tuner HondaTuning.it Then there was the powerful turbo conversion. With the already mentioned specially developed exhaust manifold, downpipe, intercooler and chip tuning, the S2000 engine can be elicited an impressive 403 PS and an upgrade to +500 PS is to follow soon. The Mahle pistons, the changed compression ratio (instead of 11,7: 1 now 8,9: 1), the FRM cylinder walls, the Skunk valve seals, the ARP cylinder head bolts and the 750 cm3 injectors also play a part in this. Since the conversion, the rev limiter only works at 9.200 rpm and the turbocharger delivers a tolerable 1,0 bar (14,7 psi) boost pressure. Incidentally, since the conversion, the wheel arches have been rotating with chic SSR Professor TF1 rims in the format 18 × 9,5 inches ET -26 at the front and 18 × 11,5 inches ET -52 at the rear with 245/35 and 285/35 slippers.
Fujitsubo exhaust system & Rocket Bunny diffuser
By the way, the owner relies on a coilover kit from BC Racing for the chassis. With regard to the gearbox, a specially made cardan shaft was required, which is coupled to a Cusco 1.5-way LSD differential. The clutch is a ceramic six-puck ACT variant with a new clutch master cylinder. And finally there were some changes inside too. Here the RX-7 now shows up with a Nardi steering wheel, AEM air / fuel gauges, a Honda S2000 gear lever, and a fully functional S2000 instrument cluster. Incidentally, the high-speed engine is acoustically noticeable through the Fujitsubo exhaust system from a Rocket Bunny diffuser. And finally ... A crazy mixture that convinces with a lot of attention to detail from every angle. If we receive timely information about further changes, there is of course an update for this report.
