Ford Performance has freshly introduced the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 - an electric extreme Mustang that is part of the continued evolution of Ford's electric motorsport efforts. The Super Cobra Jet 1800 is set to break the current world record Cobra Jet 1400 for purely electrically powered vehicles on the quarter mile (8,128 seconds at 171,97 miles per hour / approx. 277 km/h) surpass. Following the success of the NHRA World Record Cobra Jet 1400 in June 2021, which saw Bob Tasca III set his all-time best time in Ohio, Ford Performance returned to the drawing board and overhauled the vehicle's powertrain, chassis and control systems.
Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800
The Super Cobra Jet 1800 uses the same four PN-250 DZR converters combined with two double-stacked DS-250-115 motor pairs as the Cobra Jet 1400, but features a new Liberty gearbox and a completely redesigned, lighter battery system developed by Ford Performance and MLe Racecars.
Power is transmitted through a rear end redesigned by MLe Racecars with improved suspension geometries (PMR) and larger Mickey Thompson radial tires to optimize starts. Everything is controlled by Ford Performance's proprietary control software, running on AEM-EV hardware, and features a new data acquisition system, dashboard and power distribution system, all developed in-house.
"Our changes have significantly improved the car, including a weight reduction of many kilograms and an increase in power to 1800 hp," said Rushbrook
Goal: break the world record for the quarter mile!
The Super Cobra Jet 1800 won't just try that world Record the quarter mile, but also to set the records for fastest EV 0-60 mph and fastest 0WD EV 60-XNUMX mph at an NHRA event later this season. MLe Racecar co-founder and program official test driver Pat McCue will be in the driver's seat.
Ford Performance emphasizes that the Super Cobra Jet 1800 is part of its ongoing developments in electric vehicles and that the company strives to improve in all areas of motorsport.
