1987 Renault 5 GT as a widebody ute on a small car basis!

You rarely see it on the road these days, but in the 80s the Renault 5 was a hugely popular small car. The predecessor of the Clio was also an integral part of the street scene in this country and that is why Renault is already working on a fully electric new edition of the small car legend. A first concept car of a possible comeback of the legendary number 5 has already been unveiled at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, and we can't wait to see what the future will bring. Before we look into the crystal ball, however, we would like to introduce you to an extraordinary and very real Renault 5 GT.

Wild style mix!

The vehicle is in Taunton, UK, and became one by its owner Widebody-Ute rebuilt. It is currently for sale on eBay and you can buy the unique specimen for 8.000 British pounds. The Renault has already run 114.000 miles (approx. 183.465 km) and has 9 (!!!) previous owners. In the past 10 years, however, it has only been moved around 3.000 miles (approx. 4.828 km). The body kit with the Fake air intakes suggests at first glance that it is an R5 Turbo. However, this is not the case!

The converted Renault 5 is a GT model from 1987, the body of which was modified in such a way that the rear section was converted into a loading area, meaning that there is now only room for two people in the significantly smaller driver's cab. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any details about the modified chassis, but we suspect that at least Lowering springs were installed, because the Renault is low on the asphalt. When choosing the rims, the owner chose white 17-inch wheels from Speedline, which cause a stir with their sporty multi-spoke look.

For this purpose, red wheel nuts in the CDM style were installed on the vehicle, which fit seamlessly into the extraordinary look of the car. On the front there is also a fakeAir scoop in carbon fiber optics and the entire vehicle was painted in the color "Hyper Black Pearl Liquid". The yellow headlights are reminiscent of French classic cars and the rear end was cleared and also fitted with new taillights.

Racing style interior!

Black-red Recaro ep3-Racing seats, a momoSteering wheel, a dashboard covered with Alcantara and a Pioneer audio system ensure a sporty and at the same time comfortable impression in the cockpit. In addition, there is a large one on the already extremely short platform Subwoofer, which severely limits the usability of the loading area.

Changes have been made to the engine!

Unfortunately, all we know is that the engine has been thoroughly redesigned, but we have no information on the power or displacement of the powerplant.

Our conclusion:

An automotive bird of paradise that can only come from Great Britain. We are speechless, given the successful conversion of a staid small car mini ute with a high fun factor.
