Return of an automotive legend: With the all-electric 4EVER Trophy study, the brand with the rhombus is showing an unmistakable homage to the Renault 89 at the 4th Mondial de l'Auto. The concept car gives a first impression of the compact electric SUV that is to be launched in 1960. At the same time, the robust show car is reminiscent of the humanitarian 1980L Trophy Rally, which is celebrating its 2025th anniversary this year and is being completed exclusively with the iconic five-door.
Renault 4EVER Trophy
Eight million units in over 100 countries: For over 60 years, the Renault has brought together 4 generations and different social classes. It is a versatile car both in the city and in the country: for touring, for commuting, as a spacious van and much more. Modest yet trendy, a stylish and popular icon, it appeals to both men and women.
Although production ended 30 years ago, the "4L", as the Renault 4 is called in France, was always in the public eye. As a classic "youngtimer", it impressed with its longevity and reliability and became a favorite of the public, primarily among the younger generation.
Unlike the original, the show car now being presented, the purely electric 4EVER Trophy, is powered by a 100 kW/136 hp synchronous motor that draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 42 kWh. After the Renault 5 Prototype, the 4EVER Trophy show car is Renault's second electric vehicle to be launched as part of the Renaulution and was inspired by an icon of the brand.
CLASSIC SHAPES WITH A MODERN INTERPRETATION
The design of the 4EVER Trophy study cites important features of the historical model:
- the silhouette with the striking bonnet, the offset bumper and the characteristic hatchback
- the rear, trapezoidal side windows with their rounded corners above the rear wheels
- the front flanks without headlights drawn into the body
The "retro" elements fit harmoniously into the otherwise extremely technical lines characterized by muscular curves. The modern interpretation of the unmistakable Renault 4 radiator grille with its round headlights represents the connection between the modern and the past. These are supplemented in the 4EVER Trophy by modern matrix LED lights that give the vehicle a strong identity. The characteristic vertical rear lights with the latest lighting technology also cite the historical models.
Gilles Vidal, Vice President of Design at Renault: "To bring the 4EVER Trophy into the modern era, we combined its form with technological sophistication and carefully crafted the details so that the design would be just as appealing to those who already know the 4L as well as the younger generations, who may not yet be aware of the vehicle’s illustrious history.”
SHOWCAR WITH OFFROAD CHARACTER
The Renault 4EVER Trophy with its dune buggy flair invites you at first glance to explore new horizons off the beaten track. Silver paintwork and magenta accents on the bumpers, wheels and spare tire straps on the carbon fiber roof give it that extra something. Short overhangs ensure large angles of departure. With the spare tire mounted on the outside and a shovel and sand guards above the rear window, the vehicle is ideally equipped for any off-road situation.
The lower part of the vehicle is designed for use in the great outdoors. The massive protectors protrude 20 centimeters over the wheel arches, the raised body allows excursions even on difficult terrain and also emphasizes the width of the 255/55 R 19 wheels protection. Each wheel is equipped with a visible compressor that can be operated from inside the vehicle to adjust tire pressure to the terrain. Another feature is the large air outlet opening in the bonnet, which further improves the efficiency of the cooler.
Although an off-road vehicle, the 4EVER Trophy study can be driven on any paved road without restrictions. It thus offers a glimpse of the character of the future electric 4L: The new edition of the cult classic will be as versatile and universally applicable as the historical model from 1962. With a length of 4,06 meters, the 4EVER Trophy roughly corresponds to the format of the sister model Clio ( 4,05 meters). At 1,9 meters, it rises a total of 46 centimeters higher. Like its legendary predecessor, the future production vehicle will also be "made in France". As with all vehicles based on the new CMF BEV platform, production will take place at the ElectriCity electric vehicle production center in northern France.
