Fichtenberg (Germany), November 4, 2021 - The suspension manufacturer KW automotive is developing coilovers with adaptive and manually adjustable dampers for more and more Tesla vehicles. While KW coilovers are already available for the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3, the stainless steel KW coilover kit Variant 3 for the Tesla Model Y will be released at the Essen Motor Show. The compact electric SUV benefits from optional compression and rebound adjustable chassis, especially in handling and better support for the high body structure. As part of the parts certificate, the KW coilover kit allows the Tesla Model Y (AWD) to be lowered continuously between 25 and 50 millimeters on both axles. A coilover kit for all Model Y with rear-wheel drive is already in preparation. The coilover kit made in Germany, including a parts certificate, is available from EUR 2.519. More information at www.kwsuspensions.de or at the Essen Motor Show from November 27th to December 5th, 2021 in Hall 3 at the KW automotive booth.

The chassis manufacturer KW automotive benefits from the high demand for Tesla vehicle models in all markets. The KW coilover kit variant 3, which can be manually adjusted in compression and rebound, is now also available for all Tesla Model Y (AWD) with a parts certificate. "Our chassis developments for electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3 and VW e-up as well as the plug-in hybrid VW Golf 7 GTE, which is very interesting on the used car market, are among our most popular vehicle applications," says KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann. "We were totally surprised by the high demand for coilovers. Since we have also been offering a chassis for the Model 3, we have been appealing to a completely new target group who had never thought of buying a coilover kit or even modifying anything on a production vehicle before."

The Tesla Model Y with all-wheel drive, which can weigh up to two tons, benefit from the conversion to a KW coilover kit from a significantly stronger support of the electric SUV body structure. The KW dampers used have a two-stage multi-valve technology that allows the damping forces to be adjusted. "With KW variant 3, we use low-speed and high-speed valves for the compression and rebound forces," says KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann, describing the damper valve structure. While steering and braking on level road surfaces mainly result in slow piston rod speeds, on poor asphalt surfaces high damper speeds occur even when driving straight ahead. The adjustable low-speed rebound stage influences the rebound during load changes in the compressed state.

With it you can, so to speak, adjust the handling characteristics more tightly or more comfortably. With the low-speed pressure stage, on the other hand, steering and pitching behavior when braking and accelerating the heavy electric SUV can also be further influenced; just as to a certain extent also the ride comfort. "Our high-speed compression and rebound valves in variant 3, which are pre-matched to model Y in production, only become active when the road surface becomes noticeable in the form of transverse joints, edges or bumps as a disruptive factor in the vertical acceleration," explains KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann.

"The pretensioned valves open, the wheel can deflect and so the Model Y does not lose contact with the road on uneven roads.“As a result, the Tesla electric SUV with the KW coilover kit variant 3 drives much more sportily, without the residual driving comfort falling by the wayside. In other words, the KW suspension tuning is as tight as necessary and as sporty and comfortable as possible in everyday life. "With the Tesla Model 3 with rear-wheel drive, for example, the electromobility specialist Nextmove from Leipzig proved that installing a KW coilover kit increases the range by up to seven percent in conjunction with the series tire combination," continues KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann.

According to the parts certificate, the Tesla Model Y with all-wheel drive can be lowered continuously between 25 and 50 millimeters on both driven axles. While the KW coilover kit variant 3 appears for all Model Y all-wheel drive models (Long Range AWD and Performance AWD) at the Essen Motor Show, variant 2022 for all Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive is expected to follow in spring 3. The recommended retail price for the stainless steel chassis manufactured to order in Germany is 2.519 euros. More under www.kwsuspensions.de or visit us at the Essen Motor Show in Hall 3.
