For the sake of the environment - good eco-tuning can really do that

ECO tuning is ecological tuning. It can be combined with one performance Tuning but initially it is aimed at minimizing consumption. Engines then do the same or more at lower fuel consumption.

What happens during eco-tuning?

Chiptuning is primarily used, but there are other options for eco-tuning. With chip tuning for the purpose of reducing consumption, the map is optimized in such a way that the performance, emissions, torque and consumption values achieve the highest level of efficiency with the lowest possible fuel consumption in all driving situations. With pure ECO tuning, you mainly optimize those speed ranges in which the consumption reduction is possible. The torque increases in such a way that it enables a driving style with significantly lower speeds on average. This significantly reduces consumption. The current discussion about emission values - including nitrogen oxides in diesel engines - has that Eco-Tuning missed a boost. There are now additional control devices with Multi-map technologywhich allow compliance with the emission levels designed for the vehicle and provided by law. Combustion is optimized in all power ranges. The engine uses the fuel perfectly efficiently. Modern modules for eco-tuning can be used without restriction on vehicles with diesel particulate filters. Compliance with the required emission values confirms the vehicle-specific Teilegutachten.

What fuel savings is possible through ECO tuning?

The average fuel savings are assumed to be 15%, but the exact savings depend on the specific driving style. In any case, the driver lowers his fuel costs and protects the environment. The driving style naturally also results from the characteristics of the predominantly covered routes. Since the main potential for savings is to be found in increasing the torque, drivers save the most with eco-tuning when they accelerate frequently, e.g. in city traffic. This type of tuning gives you more power in the lower rev range and adjusts your driving style accordingly - for example with faster upshifts. One technical effect of eco-tuning is the immediate overrun cut-off in gasoline engines. This is usually not activated immediately when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator. It takes a few seconds, which costs unnecessary fuel.

the environment is the focus of ECO tuning

In the case of diesel engines, on the other hand, “feeding” is prevented, ie the pre-injection, especially in turbo-diesel engines, with which the sluggish response at low speeds is to be prevented. Thanks to the optimization in low speed ranges using eco-tuning, this feeding is no longer necessary. The cold start enrichment in diesel is also prevented, which is supposed to bring the engine to its operating temperature more quickly. It is actually not necessary, only the interior heating benefits from it - at the expense of much higher consumption.

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
