Diabetics should also regularly check their levels while driving in the car. However, experts warn that with a running engine a fine is imminent! To check the glucose levels (blood sugar levels) in the car, the vehicle must first be at the side of the road parked and the engine abgestellt will. This regulation only applies if you have to look away from what is happening on the road for at most a brief moment when using it. The reason for the DDG statement was a specific incident that took place in Düsseldorf: A driver stopped his vehicle at a red traffic light and checked his glucose level. A traffic police officer observed this and imposed a fine. As already mentioned above, if hypotension is suspected or to check the values in between, the car should be parked or with the Hazard lights be driven to the curb. After the engine has been switched off, there is sufficient time and peace to start up the device.
