Many car fans have a preference for a special car. While some love vintage cars, others collect modern sports cars or prefer very specific car brands. A special niche are so-called hot rods, which were built between 1920 and 1940 and impress with their extraordinary appearance. Today, however, the love of hot rods is much more than just a hobby and is associated more with an attitude towards life and a rebellious image. Let's take a closer look at the souped-up speedsters!
what is a hod rod?
The term hot rod encompasses various tuned vehicles, most of which are based on an American type that dates from between 1920 and 1940. Instead of the original engine, a hot rod usually has one powerful V8, with which rapid acceleration is possible. In addition, the vehicles are also made lighter in order to be able to speed over the asphalt even faster. Although many vehicles are basically based on an affordable body, you usually have to dig deep into your pocket for a hot rod. The vehicles have become real collector's items and their modifications can be extremely unusual. Where the name comes from and what it means is still a matter of debate among enthusiasts to this day. Hot rod could be an allusion to red-hot tires or an abbreviation of "roadster".

The hot rod was not always an expensive collector's item, but was considered a cheap alternative to the fast sports car in the 40s. Street racing was particularly common, as the hot rods were perfect for drag racing. Thanks to their low weight and powerful engines, they were able to reach incredible speeds in a short time. This is how drag racing developed through hot rods. To this day, the vehicles are associated with speed and individuality. Each vehicle is unique in its own way and many have a very special design. In general, the vehicles are also associated with a rebel image. Since the trend started in the 40s and 1950s, a connection has also developed between rockabilly culture and hot rod collecting. Today, however, the vehicles are much more detached from the specific time period and are generally seen as a special form of classic car.
the media representation
Even though it's rare to see real hot rods on the big screen these days, a few films have explored them. Here, too, you can always see the rebellious image of vintage cars, as the vehicles are usually used in daring races or are driven by particularly tough guys. The film California Kid focuses on a hot rod that has been covered in a wild flame design symbolizing speed and danger. Exciting races drive the plot forward, but also lead to mysterious deaths that have to be solved in the crime thriller. And in the film Blonde curls - sharp claws a similar phenomenon can be observed: Here, the hot rods belong to rival gangs engaged in bitter street races.
Another example of the image of the vehicles can be found in the Hot Rod Racers game in the online casino Austria. In the slot, various tuned vehicles in bright colors and patterns become the symbols on the reels. Hot rods with floral patterns or gigantic chrome shock absorbers can also be seen and are reminiscent of the films mentioned. The souped-up vehicles can no longer get rid of their wild image! And finally ... Hot rods are very special classic cars that have their own fan scene. They used to be used primarily in street races, giving them a rebellious image. Today, many collect the tuned vehicles only out of passion.
Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
