Pro-Street Hot-Rod Checker Marathon Taxi with V8 power!

Anyone who has been to any of America's major cities will have seen a yellow Checker Cab. Because Checker was the leading taxi company in the USA for years. Checker Motors was a Kalamazoo, Michigan based company that built the Checker cabs, sold as the Checker Marathon until the early 80's. While they weren't exactly known for their speed back then, there's now one such taxi, due for auction next month, that's faster than any other. Built by Barry's Speed Shop from Corona (California) this Checker Marathon Taxi became a Pro Street Hot Rod repurposed. While the livery, with familiar graphics, is modeled after classic taxis, the similarities end there.

The original six-cylinder in-line engine has disappeared from this vehicle and has been replaced by a 426 Chrysler HEMICrate engine replaced. It got a polished BDS 6-71 supercharger and XFI electronic fuel injection. Power is also sent through a 4L4E 80-speed gearbox with a B&M Street Bandit billet shifter to a custom Mark Williams rear axle with beefy Toto 325/50 R20 tires on the rear. In contrast, Toto tires in the format 235/40 R18 are fitted at the front. Incidentally, Pro Street rims from Barry's Speed Shop were used as the basis for the tires. The powertrain and body rest on a hand-built tubular frame from front to back in combination with a four-link suspension (rear). The Radical Taxi is driven by a Wildwoodsports brake system with Stainless steel brake lines delayed and the chassis relies on adjustable QA1s shock absorbers.

the cabin has also changed a lot
