Classic with a crazy look - the Rinspeed Porsche R69 Turbo

You don't see that every day! The Rinspeed Porsche R69 Turbo is one of the most curious vehicles from the company Rinspeed from Zumikon in Switzerland. It looks like a Ferrari! And then also in red! With fat Testarossa gills, folding headlights and the rear lights from the Porsche 944, a completely new look was created. With almost 400 PS as the Rinspeed R69 Turbo in 1985 it caused a sensation. But if you look at newer vehicles like that sQuba, the Etos or Budii from Rinspeed on, you realize that Swiss car developer Frank Rinderknecht is still true to his controversial line to this day. The R69 Turbo with its distinctive side air intakes is undoubtedly reminiscent of the legendary Ferrari Testarossa and was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985.

The basis was the then 911 Turbo of the G-series, which Rinspeed has completely rebuilt and with significant widenings, a flat front with folding headlights, the gills in Testarossa style and a rear without wings that takes some getting used to (but with a roof spoiler) has equipped. The flat rear end with the taillights of the Porsche 944 still houses the large intercooler from the six-cylinder boxer, which was refined by the Bavarian Porsche specialist Ruf. Two power levels with 374 and 395 hp were possible. This gave the R69 Turbo roughly the same performance as the normal Testarossa, which got 390 PS & 490 NM from a 5-liter, free-sucking 12-cylinder 180 ° V engine.

also built in other colors and as a convertible

And the R69, which was also available as a convertible, was also built with a completely individualized interior. Back then, the absolute technical highlights were a multifunction steering wheel with countless buttons in the middle, a high-end stereo system and electrically adjustable comfort seats. Incidentally, it is not known how many R69s were built. At prices between 190.000 and 226.000 marks, there won't be many of them.
