Until conversion to F80 M3 - tuning on the BMW 3er F30

From 2011 to the beginning of this year, the 3 Series with the internal designation "F30" was allowed to leave the Bavarian engine works. It was available in a wide variety of designs, equipment lines and engines. From the small 1,5-liter three-cylinder with 136 hp in the 318i to the full 3-liter in-line six-cylinder with up to 460 hp in the M3 CS, there were nine other engines to choose from. So there is something for every taste out of the box and you could be of the opinion that tuning yourself is no longer possible or necessary, as you can already decide in the vehicle configuration for one of many engines and your vehicle in many other respects, for example with the popular BMW M-Performance Parts.

Carbon parts all around are the focus

But that is not enough for the BMW car tuning scene, which is why the parts and accessories trade is almost unmanageable huge. One would like to lay hands on the 3er and not leave it as it came from the factory. Whether it's pure engine tuning with larger or improved turbochargers, intercoolers, improved exhaust routing or injection, everything is designed to give the engine more power and an individual character, away from the standard 3er. Equally well suited for this are various bumpers, aprons, spoilers, side skirts or lips. Also entire body kits are available for the F30 and also the F31 Touring which miss the vehicle a brutal look and let it be unique. Since we have already discussed the engine and the optics, the chassis including the tires remains.

Airride air suspensions are also available

On a tuning chassis (coilovers, sports suspension, etc.), the 3er feels particularly comfortable, because it has a better tuned, lower chassis even better road holding, which is noticeable in corners especially by the rear-wheel drive. But also the xDrive vehicles are sporting around the corner. In addition, you can still use rims from the accessories trade, which can optimize the roadholding and especially the optics once again. Here are sizes from 18 to maximum 21 inches usual. The autotuning are therefore absolutely no limits in this vehicle. Trading gives every owner of an F30 numerous opportunities to change his car and make it unique.

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
