On the website of the tuner Autosport Designs recently a snow-white Bertone Mantide surfaced that uses the base of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. He is fully operational and knows the high society of Pebble Beach and other celebrations of the year 2009.
Mantide Religiosa - the "praying mantis"
Originally the Mantide was presented in red, but over the years there was apparently a paint job in the current Bianco Fuji white. Incidentally, the car belongs to the genus of the Mantide Religiosa - the “praying mantis” and should actually be built 10 times. Bertone tried to combine the eerily beautiful look of a fishing rodent with the huge V8 engine of the ZR1. But it was only successful irgendwie as we find. The well-toned carbon body hides the chassis and the drive from the ZR1 which comes from the factory stately 647 PS and 819 Newtonmeter torque. Thus, the Bertone Mantide was placed in the super sports league from the beginning, which is not necessarily an advantage. After all, the competition there is a Lamborghini Huracan, a Porsche 911 Turbo S or even a McLaren 570S.
Formula 1 meets space travel
The design of the Mantide should sympathize with the supreme discipline in racing in the form of the formula 1. At the same time there were still optical bonds from space travel. The result is certainly not everyone's taste. Fat edges of a mantid from a deep nose run out to the back. What was needed was the wide wheelbase at the rear, which received ultramodern lighting technology in the taillights. The design is supposed to show the faceted eyes of mantids. Compared to the ZR1, the carbon body brings a weight advantage of 100 kilograms and integrated into the body rear spoiler and wings provide an extremely good CW value of only 0,298. In addition, the Bertone design generates about 30 percent more downforce, which of course benefits the driving dynamics.
3,2 seconds to pace 100 km / h
The acceleration and top speed are above the ZR1 and so the mantide goes according to the manufacturer in only 3,2 seconds on Tempo 100 and only at dizzying 351 km / h, the top speed is reached. And the substructure of the Mantide, like the body, also succumbed to lightweight construction. The chassis is made of aluminum and could also come from a jet. The two doors of the Mantide open spectacularly upwards and in front especially the large cooling air gorge falls in the eyes. There were new xenon headlights and the many small aerodynamic subtleties of the Mantide were even worked out in the wind tunnel.

This also applies to the consistently flat underbody of the Mantide and in the cabin, the fittings and seats are made of carbon. Incidentally, this even applies to the rims of the Mantide. And finally, a special security cell according to the FIA regulations takes care of the occupants in the event of an accident. The Mantide was built in the style of Bertone in Caprie.
