Have you ever heard of the International Harvester Company (IHC for short, later IH) as an American manufacturer of automobiles? The company was founded on August 12, 1902 and between 1956 and 1980 built off-road vehicles such as the two-door Scout (1961–1980) or the four-door Travelall (1953–1975). The off-roaders were supposed to compete with vehicles from Jeep, Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge and were quite capable of doing so. And now we've actually found such a rare specimen that has even been extensively restored and rebuilt. And the result looks as if IHC has simply built the off-roader with a few modern components to allow it to compete against the current Jeep Wrangler or the Ford Bronco that has just been presented.

But that is not the case, because the vehicle is a copy from 1973. However, as a so-called Restomod conversion. So an old vehicle with mostly modern technology. Internationally, before the construction of the off-road vehicle, was active in the production of agricultural machines. But at the beginning of the 1960s, a decision was made in favor of the SUV line by name Scout. And since the end of production, the Scout has enjoyed a real cult status in some circles. On various auction sites, the SUVs can be bought for a lot of money in poor conditions. But this copy is far from that. Due to the extremely low number of units, the vehicle should even be pretty much at the top when it comes to modified scouts. The model year 1973 shows the SUV as Scout II and it was built by Bulletproof Restorations.

old look with modern technology

They managed to create a partly fresh, but also still timeless design. The old look harmonizes perfectly with modern technology as we find it. And as a special highlight there was also a new engine. A 6,0-liter V8 from GM was specially built, with an output of 380 hp and an impressive 542 NM. The engine is coupled to a modern 6-speed automatic with a sports gearshift and the Scout stands on bronze-colored 17-inch titanium 7-wheels fitted with mighty 32-inch (0,81 m) BF Goodrich off-road tires. In combination with the Epsom Green painted body including the Wimbledon White offset roof, the appearance couldn't be better. There are also modern LED main headlights, there is a swiveling spare wheel on the rear door, a metal front apron with bull bar and, curiously, no rear-view mirrors. Why? We do not know it! But we know that the 1973 International Scout II has air conditioning, power steering and a completely redesigned cabin.

It is furnished with brown, handcrafted leather upholstery that extends into the trunk and also covers the steering wheel. Of course, countless small details are also built in here to create an absolutely unique piece. The value of the vehicle is currently around 100.000 US dollars and the SUV can even be won, including 20.000 US dollars in cash. The Scout is part of an Omaze campaign that aims to benefit the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital in Vanderbilt.
