The new Audi SQ7 - V8 petrol colossus for the US market.

When Audi launched the new Q7 (4M), many car fans thought that it would be a bit smaller than the first generation of the giant SUV, since the discussions about the purpose of large SUV models had already flared up , and environmentalists have already taken a storm against such colossi, which exude a very special fascination for many car fans. Nevertheless, Audi stuck to the concept and placed the Q7 in the full-size SUV class with a length of over 5 meters, surpassing potential competitors such as a VW Touareg, a BMW X5 or a Mercedes GLE in terms of size. Now the sports version called SQ7 is also available as a petrol engine for the US market, and one hopes that this will boost the image and sales figures in the USA, which are still very much expandable at Audi.

The design of the new Audi SQ7, which, in contrast to the previous model, is much more angular and quotes the new Audi design line, is dominated at the front by the large octagonal single-frame grill with vertical struts, which is the predominant feature of the new Q models who is Ingolstadt. At the rear, the four-pipe exhaust system and the underride guard with diffuser optics immediately catch the eye, while the roof spoiler was enlarged very discreetly. In addition, S-specific sills are used all around as well as mirror caps in aluminum look. Last but not least, the sporty Ingolstadt man rolls on 21-inch alloy wheels in five-spoke design, which perfectly fill the enormous wheel arches.

It is astonishing that after the diesel scandal in Europe, the new Audi SQ7 for the European market does not have the same V8 petrol engine as the SQ7 for the American market. While one continues to rely on diesel technology in Europe, the US-SQ7 comes with a 4-liter V8 turbo with 500 hp and 770 Nm of torque, which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic with Tiptronic function, and the power via the well-known Quattro System sends permanently to all four wheels. The sprint from 0 to 100 km / h is a breathtaking 4,3 seconds, and the propulsion ends at 250 km / h. These are values that are not necessarily expected from a 2,5-ton SUV, but rather from a sports car. The Euro-SQ7 with the 4,0-liter TDI takes at least 4,8 seconds for this discipline. To also increase the lateral dynamics, the SQ7 has modified adaptive air suspension and all-wheel steering. Audi also offers an optional sports package that includes automatic roll compensation, a sports differential and red brake calipers.

Interior fully equipped with a lot of high-tech

As you can probably already imagine, the new sports SUV from Audi has all the highlights that the Ingolstadt-based company currently has to offer. Regardless of whether it is the latest MMI system with two touchscreens, the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a 3D surround sound system with 19 speakers or an adaptive traffic jam assistant, you will find it in the Audi SQ7. The Q7 also offers various clever things for people who appreciate the practical functions. For example, a third row of seats in the rear, which can be lowered and raised electrically, or a second row of seats, which can be divided into three parts in a 35/30/35 ratio.

Prices are at the expected high level

In the United States, the new power SUV will be available from $ 84.800, and certainly not a bargain. Performance-loving and solvent family fathers with a penchant for sporty driving shouldn't be a thorn in the side, so that the Audi SQ7 will likely find its buyers who need the space of a full-size SUV, but at the same time don't want to do without sports car-like driving performance.
