Alpina BMW 2002 tii with “Manhart Performance” tuning!

What happens when you merge a jewel of automotive engineering with the technical expertise of a modern tuner? The result is a classic BMW 2002 tii from Alpina, which the Wuppertal team from MANHART Classic Cars thoroughly overhauled and further refined. After already very successful conversion work on vehicles such as the Lancia Delta Integrale or the iconic E30 M3 (Both vehicles are available at the end of the article), an old acquaintance is now moving into the spotlight: Der BMW 02, a pioneer of the 3 Series, which has already celebrated notable motorsport successes in collaboration with Alpina.

There is work going on under the hood of the speedster Two-liter M10 in-line four-cylinder in the special Alpina A4 variant. Equipped with a Individual throttle system and a Headers from Alpina, the engine gets an additional one K&N airbox a significant increase in bang. Compared to the standard 130 hp 2002 tii, the Manhart model is better 200 PS and 215 Nm really neat. This is ensured by a comprehensively revised engine, which is more than enough for such an “old” 1960s treasure that weighs just one ton. By the way, the distinctive exhaust sound is replaced by a new one MANHART sports exhaust system strengthened.

But what use is all that power if you can't stop in time? Even before it arrived at MANHART, the 2002 tii was Brake system of a 323i the E21 series. And when it comes to driving dynamics, the tuners didn't do anything by halves either. A Raab coilover suspension by KW ensures a contemporary, sporty driving experience, while the Wiechers cathedral strut makes the body more stable. And in the wheel arches of the 2002 tii? This is where the original shines Alpina multi-spoke rims measuring 8×16 inches and equipped with 215/40R16 and 225/40R16 tires. The wheels are in place thanks 25-mm spacers perfect under the widened fenders, the so-called “Pork cheeks".

Visually, however, the classic ones clearly attract attention Alpina decorative stripes and lettering in bright green and silver attracts attention Agave green adorn lacquered classics. And the accents continue in the interior: Sports seats by Scheel, revised by MANHART, shine with stripes in green and blue. A Clubsport roll bar rounds off the harmonious overall picture in the rear of the classic car. In summary: An old hand shows that he still has what it takes with modern tuning.
