A type of vehicle that used to be particularly popular in Australia is the so-called Utes ("utility vehicle" is the English abbreviation for this) - sedans, which instead of a full passenger compartment behind the front seats, a universally usable load area to have. They were mostly available from the manufacturer Ford and the GM subsidiary Holden. A Ute was, so to speak, the sporty option to the tried and tested pick-up variant. But to the chagrin of enthusiasts, no new or diverse follow-up models are currently in sight. For the "Ute fan community" could therefore Smyth Performance from Rhode Island in North America may be the right address.
Price for a kit: €3.400
In Rhode Island, complete kits (conversion kits) are manufactured for the "pick-up transformation" of a wide variety of vehicles. We have already reported on converted specimens based on one VW Beetle or the Dodge Charger of the model generation (LX/LD built in 2006). But a VW Jetta, a VW Golf, a Jeep Grand Cherokee or an Audi A4 can also be transformed into a Ute. And for the charger of the LD generation (from 2010) and its facelift (from 2015) there is now such a kit. Thus, the Charger of the series from 2005 to 2020 can be converted. Smyth has a full one for this Kit for the price of 3.590 dollars (corresponds to approx. 3.535 €) at the start.
During the conversion, the tail lights replaced by those from the Dodge Caravan or the Chrysler Town & Country and included are custom made for the truck bed Panel aluminum, prefabricated stiffeners for the chassis, as well as new ones made of fiberglass side segments. Also a new one Hatchback , and a final element for the cabin are included. And optionally there are even special versions as Breitbau available. And so that everything works, there is even one conversion instructions in classic printed form and as a video. However, everyone has to overcome the challenge of putting the saw on their vehicle for themselves.
also for the 6,2-liter hemi-compressor V8
For example, it can be rebuilt Base Charger with the 292 hp 3,6-liter V6 to the 6,2 liter hemi-supercharged V8 with almost 800 "horses". So you can then even the Australian Ute top dog HSV GTSR W1 with 645 PS and its 6,2-liter supercharged V8 from the Corvette ZR1 behind. However, Smyth Performance requires a deposit of $1.000 to secure the order. That is deliverable Kit for UK and Europe and that for left or right hand drive. But beware, our test institutes in Germany will be willing to accept such a conversion no admission To give. It's a shame actually!
